This particular configuration runs a white front outline with a green tritium lamp up front and a plain metal rear, all lit by green tritium. That means a clean, high-contrast dot to focus on in daylight and a battery-free glow when the lights drop. The rear notch is a square style measuring 0.14 inches wide, and the front blade sits at 0.110 inches, a proven combination for lining up fast without the front post crowding out your target.
Durability is where Trijicon earns its reputation. Each tritium lamp is sealed inside an aluminum cylinder, cushioned with silicone rubber to soak up recoil, and capped with a sapphire jewel that spreads the light evenly while shielding the glass from solvents and punctures. Yes. These sights are built tall specifically to serve as backup iron sights alongside a slide-mounted red dot like the Trijicon RMR. The extra height lets you see the sight picture through or around the optic window if the dot ever goes down.
This set is cut for the Smith & Wesson M&P C.O.R.E. and M&P M2.0 Optics Ready models. Double-check that your slide is the optics-ready or C.O.R.E. version, since the dovetail cut differs from a standard M&P slide.
No batteries at all. The green tritium lamps glow on their own using a sealed phosphor-filled glass vial, so they're always ready in low light. Trijicon warrants the green tritium to glow for 12 years from the date of manufacture, though the light does gradually dim over time as tritium naturally dissipates.
Trijicon recommends professional installation. These press into the slide dovetails and the rear locks down with a set screw, so a proper sight pusher and a steady hand make the job far easier and safer for the sights. A gunsmith can knock it out quickly if you'd rather not risk marring your slide.
