Trijicon took what made the original HD sights a favorite and gave them a sharper edge. The big change is a thinner front post measuring 0.122 inches wide, down from the 0.144-inch blade on the standard HDs. That narrower blade opens up your field of view, so you get a cleaner look at your target and can pick up hits faster, even when you stretch things out to distance. The green tritium front dot sits behind a domed sapphire lens that spreads the glow evenly, and the photoluminescent yellow ring around it charges up in daylight to catch your eye the second you present the gun.
The rear sight is where the design really earns its keep. It runs a wide U-shaped notch that pulls your focus onto the front dot instead of fighting for attention, and the outline stays blacked out so nothing distracts you. The front face of the rear is steeply hooked, which gives you a ledge to rack the slide one-handed against a belt or boot heel if your other hand is out of commission. Reviewers consistently point out how bright the front dot reads and how well it tracks through recoil for fast follow-up shots.
This set fits the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield in .40, .45, and 9mm, along with the Shield Plus and Shield M2.0 models. The one exception is the M&P Shield EZ series, so those are out. The tritium lamps are tucked inside protective aluminum cylinders with silicone rubber cushioning to shrug off heavy recoil and harsh cleaning solvents, and the finish holds up to daily carry.

This set is cut for the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield in .40, .45, and 9mm, along with the Shield Plus and Shield M2.0. The only Shield models it does not cover are the M&P Shield EZ series. If you have a standard or Plus Shield, you are good to go.

The yellow front ring is photoluminescent and charges off ambient light to stand out during the day.
Trijicon recommends professional installation, and a gunsmith or anyone with a proper sight pusher can knock it out in a few minutes. On the M&P platform the rear sight sits over the striker block, so you will want a tool to depress that during reinstall. If you are not comfortable with a sight pusher, having a shop do it is cheap insurance for your slide and sights.
