The receiver and barrels wear a deep black finish that keeps the look clean and traditional, and the Prince of Wales style Turkish walnut stock gives it the kind of warmth you only get from real wood.
The 3 inch chamber means you can run everything from light 2.5 inch target loads to full-power 3 inch hunting shells, and the improved cylinder and modified choke pairing is a smart setup for a .410 double. IC in one barrel for closer flushes, modified in the other when the bird gets out a little farther. That combination covers rabbits, squirrels, quail, dove, and a whole lot of backyard clay busting. Manual extractors lift your hulls clear when you break the action, which is handy if you like saving empties for reloading or just keeping the field clean.
Double triggers take about five minutes to get used to and then feel completely natural, and there is a certain satisfaction in choosing your barrel on the fly. The Alesta uses a classic double trigger setup, with the front trigger firing one barrel and the rear trigger firing the other. It is the traditional way side-by-sides were built, and it lets you instantly pick which choke you want for a given shot. Most folks adapt to it after a single range session.
The Alesta is chambered for 3 inch .410 shells and will also handle anything shorter, including the common 2.5 inch loads. That gives you a wide range of options, from light target shells for clays to heavier 3 inch payloads for small game and upland birds.
It is one of the best. The .410 bore produces very little recoil, and the Alesta's light, well-balanced build makes it easy to carry and swing all day. The break-open action is also simple to understand and operate, which makes it a great teaching gun for anyone learning the ropes.
