The trigger is one of the biggest things standing between you and tighter groups, and a factory mil-spec unit is usually the weak link. Timney's AR-15 Competition Trigger fixes that with a pre-tuned 4 lb single-stage pull that breaks clean with almost no creep and a short, distinct reset. It ships as a fully assembled module with all the working parts captive inside a lightweight aluminum housing, so you're not fishing tiny springs and pins out of your lower.
This one is built to last. The hammer is wire-EDM machined from S7 tool steel, which shrugs off repeated impact without chipping, and the rest of the engagement parts are cut from A2 tool steel and heat treated to Rc 56-60. Those precision-ground surfaces are what give you that glassy, consistent break every time you press it. The design also uses your rifle's original hammer and trigger pins while eliminating the pin walkout that plagues a lot of drop-in units.
This is the small pin version, meaning it drops into AR-15 lowers cut for .154 inch trigger and hammer pin holes, which covers the vast majority of AR-15 and M4-pattern rifles out there. The curved shoe gives you a familiar, traditional trigger face. The pre-set 4 lb weight lands in a sweet spot that's light enough for precision work at the range, varmint and hunting setups, or competition, while still feeling deliberate enough to trust.
Installation is genuinely a drop-in job that even a first-timer can knock out in a few minutes. You'll drive out your old fire control group, seat the Timney module, reinstall your pins, and snug down the set screws with the included Allen wrench. A tip from folks who've done a bunch of these: clamping your lower in a mag-well vise block frees up both hands and makes moving the spring legs aside for the set screws a whole lot easier. Timney has been building triggers since 1946 and hand-tests every unit before it ships.
This is the small pin model, so it fits AR-15 and M4-pattern lowers machined for .154 inch trigger and hammer pin holes, which is the standard for the vast majority of AR-15 rifles. If you have a large pin lower, you'll want the large pin version instead. It is not designed for AR-10 or .308 platforms, which need Timney's heavier hammer models.
It's a true drop-in job with no gunsmithing needed, and most people finish in a few minutes using the existing hammer and trigger pins. The one spot that trips folks up is holding the spring legs clear of the set screw holes, so clamping your lower in a mag-well vise block makes it much easier. If you're running a polymer lower, request Timney's small aluminum mag-well plate to protect the housing.
The 4 lb setting is a versatile middle ground that's light and crisp enough for precision range work, hunting, and competition, while still feeling controlled and predictable. The break is clean with minimal creep and a short reset, which makes fast, accurate follow-up shots easier. Because it comes pre-set from the factory, there's no adjusting needed out of the box.
Yes. The proprietary self-contained design is built to eliminate the pin rotation and walkout that can plague standard AR fire control groups. Some builders still like to run anti-walk pins for extra peace of mind, but it isn't required for this unit to stay put.
