The Timber Creek AMBI SS is one of those upgrades that pays for itself the first time you run your rifle. It drops right into any Mil-Spec AR lower and replaces that stiff, gritty factory selector with something that moves clean and positive every single time. You get controls on both sides of the receiver, so whether you shoot right-handed, left-handed, or switch shoulders around cover, flipping between safe and fire stays fast and natural.
The big draw here is the selectable throw. You can set it up for a traditional 90-degree throw if that's what you're used to, or drop it down to a 45-degree short throw so you're going from safe to fire with a shorter, quicker sweep of the thumb. That short-throw setup is a favorite for anyone with shorter thumbs or a high firing grip, since you're not stretching to break the safety. The levers are modular too, so you can mix the long and short paddles to match your hand and grip.
The levers are machined from aircraft-grade billet aluminum with textured sides for a secure grip in wet or gloved conditions. It runs a standard-length lever on the left and a shorter paddle on the right, which keeps the right side out of the way of your trigger finger. The Flat Dark Earth Cerakote finish is durable and pairs nicely with FDE builds, though it tends to read a touch darker than standard Magpul FDE if you're matching furniture exactly.
This selector is designed for AR-15 and AR-308 style rifles running Mil-Spec lowers, and it plays well with the vast majority of trigger setups including popular drop-ins. It is not compatible with POF or Hyperfire triggers, so keep that in mind if you're running one of those. You reuse your existing lower, and the swap is a straightforward drop-in job. A dab of removable thread locker on the two lever screws is a good idea for the long haul.
The 90-degree throw is the traditional AR sweep you're used to, moving the lever a full quarter turn from safe to fire. The 45-degree short throw cuts that motion in half, so you break the safety faster with less thumb travel. The AMBI SS lets you set it up either way based on your grip and preference.
It works with the vast majority of trigger setups, including popular drop-in units from brands like Geissele and CMC, along with standard Mil-Spec triggers. The one thing to watch is that it is not compatible with POF or Hyperfire triggers. Always run a full function check after installing any safety.
It's close, but not a dead-on match. The Cerakote tends to read a touch darker than standard Magpul FDE, so if you're picky about an exact color match it's worth knowing. That said, it pairs well with most FDE builds and matches lowers like Aero Precision nicely.
