There are varmint rifles, and then there is the rifle Tikka decided to call the Super Varmint. This T3X in 22-250 Remington earns the name. You get a 23.7 inch heavy contour barrel that soaks up heat during long prairie dog sessions, a 1:14 twist that stabilizes the classic lightweight varmint bullets this cartridge was born to launch, and a two-stage trigger that breaks clean when a coyote finally steps into the open. The 22-250 remains one of the flattest shooting predator cartridges around, and it feels right at home in a barrel this stout.
The green Roughtech synthetic stock with black webbing is more than a paint job. The textured surface gives you real purchase with cold hands, wet gloves, or a sweaty grip in July. It is also modular, with an adjustable cheek piece, a vertical pistol grip, and an attachment point that lets you change the width of the fore-end. Interchangeable grips are available separately if you want to fine tune the angle for prone or bench work. Between the wider fore-end and the vertical grip, this stock settles nicely into bags and bipods.
Both the barrel and stainless receiver wear a Tungsten Cerakote finish that shrugs off corrosion, abrasion, and the dings that come with tossing a rifle in and out of a truck all season. The spiral fluted bolt runs with that famously smooth Tikka feel, and the oversized bolt knob is easy to find in a hurry, gloves or not. Up top, a Picatinny rail comes installed so mounting your scope is quick and repeatable. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 for a brake or suppressor, and a detachable 5-round magazine keeps you fed for 5+1 total capacity.
Tikka rifles have a well earned reputation for out of the box accuracy, and this configuration stacks the deck further with the heavy barrel, refined trigger, and adjustable ergonomics. If your seasons revolve around called coyotes, sunned-up groundhogs, or steel at distance, this one checks the boxes without needing a single upgrade to get started.
Yes, the muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, which is the common pattern for most .22 caliber centerfire suppressors and muzzle brakes. That makes adding a can or brake a simple thread-on job. A thread protector keeps things tidy when you are running the bare muzzle.
This rifle runs a 1:14 twist, which is the traditional rate for the 22-250 Remington. It is ideal for the lighter varmint bullets in the 40 to 55 grain range that this cartridge is famous for pushing fast and flat. If you were hoping to shoot heavy 70 grain plus match bullets, this is not the twist for that, but for coyotes and prairie dogs it is exactly right.
There are no iron sights on this rifle, but it ships with a Picatinny rail already mounted on the receiver. That means you can bolt on scope rings and glass right away without buying a separate base. Given the flat trajectory of the 22-250, a quality variable power scope is the natural pairing.
