This Tactical Solutions thread protector spins onto any standard 1/2-28 muzzle and covers those threads whenever your suppressor, comp, or brake is riding in the range bag instead of on the rifle. The blued finish pairs up cleanly with blued and matte black barrels, and the whole point of the .920 inch outside diameter is that it carries the bull barrel profile straight through to the muzzle. Installed, it looks like part of the barrel, not a cap somebody stuck on the end.
Tactical Solutions designed this end cap specifically for .920 diameter 10/22 barrels, including their own X-Ring line. If you shoot a TacSol barrel or any other bull barrel threaded 1/2-28, this is the factory-correct replacement for the cap that came on it, or the one that wandered off at the range, which happens more than anyone likes to admit. Machined from 416 stainless steel and finished in blue, it holds up to regular on-and-off use without the threads wallowing out.
Muzzle threads are cut to tight tolerances, and one good knock against a bench or safe door can peen them enough that your muzzle device no longer starts smoothly. A protector is cheap insurance by comparison. It also keeps powder residue, dust, and moisture out of the threads between range trips, which makes a real difference if your can lives on a different host most of the time.
Installation is as simple as it gets. Thread it on hand-tight and go shoot. Since 1/2-28 is the standard thread pitch for most .22 LR and 5.56 muzzles, this cap works on plenty of barrels beyond the 10/22, as long as the .920 diameter suits the barrel profile you are covering.
It fits any barrel threaded 1/2-28, which is the most common thread pitch on aftermarket 10/22 barrels. Keep in mind the outside diameter is .920 inch, sized to match bull barrels like the TacSol X-Ring line. It will still thread onto a slimmer taper barrel, but the cap will stick out wider than the muzzle.

Hand-tight is all it needs. There is no pressure or recoil force trying to spin it off, so cranking on it with tools just risks marring the finish. If yours tends to loosen from vibration during long range sessions, a tiny dab of removable thread locker will keep it put without making removal a chore.
Not really, and that is by design. This version is meant for blued and black barrels. Tactical Solutions also makes the same .920 end cap in stainless if your barrel is silver, so pick the finish that matches your setup.
