There is a certain appeal to hunting with a single shot, and the Encore ProHunter makes a strong case for it. You get one round, a crisp break action, and a rifle that forces you to make that first shot count. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, this ProHunter takes a cartridge known for flat trajectories and mild recoil and puts it behind a 26 inch fluted stainless barrel, which gives the Creedmoor plenty of room to build velocity for deer, antelope, and hogs at real hunting distances.
The barrel is where Thompson Center put the work in. The 5R rifling uses five grooves with angled lands, a design that deforms bullets less and picks up less jacket fouling, so accuracy holds up and cleaning goes faster. The muzzle comes threaded 5/8-24 with a thread protector installed, ready for a suppressor or brake with no gunsmith trip required. Fluting trims weight and adds surface area for cooling, and the stainless finish shrugs off wet weather better than blued steel ever will. There are no iron sights on this one, but the receiver comes drilled and tapped, so mounting a scope base is quick and easy.
The black FlexTech synthetic stock is built to compress and absorb recoil rather than send it straight into your shoulder, which keeps the 6.5 Creedmoor feeling downright gentle. The Swing Hammer offsets to either side, so cocking under a scope is simple whether you shoot right or left handed, and the whole setup is fully ambidextrous. At about 7 pounds and 40 inches overall, it carries well for a 26 inch barreled rifle.
The real magic of the Encore platform is barrel interchangeability. This same frame accepts other Encore centerfire barrels, muzzleloader barrels, and shotgun configurations, so the rifle you buy for deer season can wear a different barrel for turkey or the muzzleloader hunt without buying a whole new gun. Start with the Creedmoor and grow the collection from there.
No, this model ships without iron sights. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so all you need is an Encore pattern base and rings to mount your optic. Most hunters running a 26 inch Creedmoor barrel plan on glass anyway, so this keeps the setup clean.
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24, which is the standard thread pitch for most 6.5mm and .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle brakes. A thread protector comes installed from the factory to keep the threads clean when you are shooting without a can.
That is the whole draw of the Encore platform. The frame accepts other Encore centerfire barrels along with muzzleloader and shotgun barrels, so one frame can cover deer season, turkey season, and the muzzleloader hunt. Swapping is a simple job of drifting out the hinge pin and dropping in a new barrel.
The FlexTech stock is designed with recoil absorbing sections that compress on firing, cutting a meaningful amount of felt recoil compared to a rigid synthetic stock. Paired with the already soft shooting 6.5 Creedmoor and a 7 pound rifle, this one is comfortable enough for long range sessions and new hunters alike.
