The Encore ProHunter is one of the most versatile break-action platforms out there, and this 15-inch pistol barrel is a smart way to add a soft-shooting 223 Rem chambering to your setup. Swapping barrels on an Encore takes only a couple minutes, so this drops right into your existing pistol frame and gets you ready for a day chasing varmints without much fuss.
The 223 Remington is about as pleasant a centerfire as you can shoot from a handgun. Recoil is mild, ammo is easy to find in every load imaginable, and the round has plenty of reach for fox, coyotes, groundhogs, and prairie dogs. Folks who run one of these Encore pistols in 223 tend to be surprised by how accurate they are, and the mild demeanor makes it an easy one to hand off to a partner or younger shooter at the range.
The barrel is turned from stainless steel for corrosion resistance, which matters when you're out in the weather or sweating over a warm prairie dog town. The fluting isn't just for looks. It shaves weight and helps the barrel shed heat between strings while keeping things rigid where it counts. The 1:12 twist is a proven pairing for the lighter and mid-weight bullets most 223 shooters reach for.
The receiver is drilled and tapped, so mounting a scope or a red dot is straightforward once you pick up a base. Keep in mind this barrel comes with no sights and is built specifically for Encore pistol frames, not Contender or G2 Contender frames. Every ProHunter barrel gets test-fired at 100 yards before it ships, which is a nice bit of reassurance that it left the shop shooting the way it should.
No. This barrel is built specifically for Encore series pistol frames and will not fit Contender or G2 Contender frames. If you're running an Encore or Encore ProHunter frame, you're good to go.
It ships with no sights. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so you'll want to add a base and mount a scope or red dot to get the most out of that 15-inch barrel. That's the common route for a varmint setup like this.
It has a 1:12 twist, which is a well-proven rate for the lighter and mid-weight bullets most 223 shooters use. It pairs nicely with common varmint loads, and with a good load you can expect this platform to shoot well past what most folks expect from a handgun.
It's about as easy as it gets. Pull the two forend screws, knock out the hinge pin, drop in the new barrel, and put it back together. The whole job takes just a couple of minutes with no gunsmithing needed.
