Cleaning an AK is a lot more pleasant when you have the right surface under it, and this TekMat AK-47 bench mat delivers exactly that. Measuring 12 by 36 inches, it's built long enough to lay out a fully field-stripped rifle with plenty of open space left over for your solvent, brushes, punches, and small parts. No more chasing a detent spring across the garage floor because it rolled off a too-small pad.
The top layer is a soft thermoplastic fiber that won't scratch your finish and shrugs off oil, solvent, and water so spills sit on the surface instead of soaking into your bench. Underneath, a thick 1/8-inch neoprene rubber backing adds cushioning and grip, so the mat stays put while you're driving out pins or scrubbing the bore. That padding also gives you a little insurance against dropped bolts and dinged tools.
What makes these mats a favorite is the printed schematic. This one lays out the AK-47's parts diagram in full color along with a bit of the rifle's history, so whether you're a first-time owner learning your way around the platform or a seasoned hand doing a detailed strip, the reference is right in front of you. The artwork is done with dye-sublimation printing, meaning the ink is heat-transferred into the fibers rather than sitting on top, so it holds up to repeated use without fading or rubbing off.
When you're finished, the mat rolls up tight and stores alongside the rest of your cleaning gear. Get it grimy and you can toss it in the washing machine, then let it air dry and it's ready for the next session. It's a simple piece of kit, but once you've cleaned a rifle on one, going back to a bare table feels like a step backward.
Yes. At 12 by 36 inches it's sized to hold a completely disassembled rifle with extra room for your tools, brushes, and cleaning supplies. You won't be crowding parts together or watching them slide off the edge.
The graphics are applied with dye-sublimation printing, which heat-transfers the ink directly into the mat's fibers rather than laying it on top. That means the parts diagram resists fading and won't rub off from regular cleaning sessions or contact with solvents.
You can. When it gets grimy, run it through on a gentle cycle and then let it air dry rather than tossing it in the dryer. It'll be ready for your next teardown without any special care.
The neoprene rubber backing grips your bench so the mat doesn't slide around while you're driving out pins or scrubbing the bore. The 1/8-inch thickness also adds a bit of cushion that helps protect both your rifle and your work surface.
