Cleaning a Sig P229 at the kitchen table gets old fast, especially when solvent soaks into the wood and small parts roll off the edge. The TekMat Ultra 20 fixes both problems with a 15 inch by 20 inch surface that gives you plenty of room to lay out a fully disassembled pistol along with your brushes, patches, punches, and oil. TekMat pioneered the printed cleaning mat, and the Ultra line is their beefed up version with more space, thicker padding, and a stitched edge that keeps things looking sharp for years.
This mat runs a quarter inch thick, which is double the padding you get on the standard TekMat models. That extra cushion protects your work surface from dropped tools and shields the pistol from the hard bench underneath. The top is a soft thermoplastic fiber that repels oil, solvent, and water, so spills wipe away instead of soaking in. Underneath, a non-slip vulcanized rubber backing keeps the mat planted while you're wrestling with a stubborn takedown lever.
What sets this apart from a generic shop mat is the artwork. A detailed, Sig-specific parts diagram of the P229 is printed across the surface using dye-sublimation, which bakes the ink into the fibers rather than sitting on top like a silkscreen. That means it won't crack, fade, or wear off with repeated cleanings and scrubbing. The layout also includes a bit of history on the P229, so it's a handy reference during field stripping and reassembly, plus something nice to look at on the bench.
When you're done, the whole thing rolls up tight for storage alongside the rest of your cleaning gear. Toss it in a range bag or tuck it in a drawer until the next range trip. For P229 owners who want a purpose-built maintenance surface that earns its keep, the Ultra 20 is tough to beat.
Yes. The thermoplastic fiber top surface is oil, solvent, and water resistant, so spills wipe up instead of soaking in. It keeps chemicals from reaching your bench or table underneath, and the mat is washable when it needs a deeper clean.
The Ultra 20 is the upgraded version. You get a larger 15×20 work area, a thicker quarter inch of padding versus the standard 1/8 inch, and a stitched edge that keeps the mat from curling or fraying over time.
No. TekMat uses dye-sublimation printing, which bakes the ink into the fibers rather than laying it on top like a silkscreen. That lets it stand up to repeated cleanings, scrubbing, and solvent without cracking or fading.
The diagram is specific to the Sig Sauer P229, but the surface works fine for cleaning any handgun. At 15×20 with room for a fully disassembled pistol plus tools, it makes a solid general-purpose bench mat even if you're wrenching on something else.
