There's something satisfying about a hammer-fired pistol in a market packed with striker-fired lookalikes, and the Taurus TH40 leans into that. It runs a traditional DA/SA trigger, so you get that long, deliberate first pull followed by a crisp single-action break for every shot after. The exposed hammer also means you can decock and carry it hammer down, or run it cocked and locked with the ambidextrous thumb safety. Add a loaded chamber indicator and a firing pin block, and you've got a pistol with real options for how you want to run it.
The TH40 feeds 15+1 rounds of .40 S&W from double-stack magazines, and Taurus includes two of them in the box. The 4.27 inch barrel gives the .40 round enough runway to do its job, and the full-size polymer frame soaks up recoil better than you'd expect from the caliber. Plenty of owners report it shooting closer to a 9mm than the snappy .40 reputation would suggest. Up top, the matte black carbon steel slide wears Novak drift-adjustable sights front and rear, a genuinely nice touch at this level, and the front dovetail opens the door to sight upgrades down the road.
Taurus built the TH frame with finger grooves, generous stippling panels, and interchangeable backstraps so you can dial the grip to your hand size instead of adapting to it. Controls are ambidextrous, including the safety and a reversible magazine release, which makes life easier for lefties and anyone training with both hands. There's also a full Picatinny rail on the dust cover for a light or laser.

This model ships with two 15-round double-stack magazines, so you have a spare ready for the range or training right out of the box. Extra factory magazines are readily available if you want to stock up.
Yes on both counts. The frame has a full Picatinny rail under the dust cover for weapon lights and lasers. The Novak-style front and rear sights sit in dovetail cuts and are drift-adjustable, so swapping in aftermarket sights is a straightforward job.
