The Raging Hunter picked up American Hunter's Handgun of the Year Golden Bullseye back in 2019, and once you get one in your hands it makes sense. Yes. Like any .357 Magnum revolver, it happily runs .38 Special and .38 Special +P loads. That makes range practice a lot cheaper and easier on the hands, then you can load up full magnum hunting rounds when it counts.
You sure can, and no gunsmithing is needed. The Raging Hunter has a Picatinny rail built into the top of the barrel housing, so a red dot or handgun scope bolts right on with standard rail mounts. Plenty of owners run optics on these and report solid groups out to 50 yards and beyond.
Milder than you might expect. At roughly 55 ounces, the gun's weight soaks up a lot of the punch, and the factory porting and cushioned grip insert handle the rest. Most folks describe full magnum loads as very manageable, and .38 Specials feel downright gentle.
It is a great middle ground. You get better velocity and a longer sight radius than shorter barrels, which matters when you are pushing .357 Magnum on deer or hogs at handgun distances. It still carries comfortably in a chest holster or hip rig, which is why this length is so popular with handgun hunters.
