Yes. Any revolver chambered in .44 Magnum will safely fire .44 Special, and this one is no exception. It is a great way to keep range sessions comfortable and affordable while saving the full-power magnum loads for hunting or the woods.
You sure can, and you will not need any extra hardware. The Raging Hunter has a Picatinny rail built right into the top of the barrel, so it accepts red dots and long eye relief handgun scopes with standard Picatinny mounts. Plenty of owners run an optic for hunting and keep the adjustable irons as backup.
It is far more pleasant than you might expect from the chambering. Between the 49 ounce weight, the factory porting with its gas expansion chamber, and the cushioned insert grip, muzzle rise and felt recoil are noticeably softer than a traditional .44 Mag. It still lets you know it is a magnum, but most folks find it very controllable with good technique.
This barrel length is the sweet spot for a lot of people. It is compact enough to ride comfortably in a chest holster on a backcountry trip, yet still delivers plenty of velocity for deer and hogs at short to medium range. Six rounds of .44 Magnum also make it a reassuring sidearm anywhere large animals are a concern.
