The Taurus 58 is the modern return of a pistol plenty of folks remember fondly, the old PT58, and Taurus brought it back with the same recipe that made it work the first time. It is a full-size, hammer-fired .380 ACP built on a lightweight aluminum frame with a steel slide and a 4 inch stainless barrel, running a simple straight-blowback action. The stainless finish on this version gives it a clean, classic look that stands out in a sea of black polymer. Here is the thing about pairing a full-size gun with a mild cartridge: recoil practically disappears. At 29.6 ounces unloaded, the Model 58 soaks up what little kick the .380 ACP produces, which makes it a great pick for newer handgun owners, anyone with reduced hand strength, or someone who just wants long, comfortable range sessions. The DA/SA trigger gives you a deliberate double-action first pull with crisp single-action follow-ups, and the ambidextrous safety/decocker lets you drop the hammer safely on a loaded chamber. Most .380 pistols top out at 6 to 12 rounds. The Taurus 58 holds 15+1 and ships with two 15-round magazines, so you have 30 rounds ready before you touch a loose box of ammo. That capacity, combined with a full-length grip that fits your whole hand, sets it apart from the pocket-sized .380 crowd.

It is a modern update of the PT58 that Taurus produced from the late 1980s into the mid 1990s. The new version keeps the same basic layout, Beretta 84 inspired styling, and blowback DA/SA operation, but is built with current production materials including an aluminum frame and steel slide. Taurus reintroduced it in 2025.
Night and day difference. Because it weighs close to 30 ounces and has a full-length grip, felt recoil is very soft compared to pocket-sized .380s. That makes it easier to shoot accurately and a lot more pleasant over a long range session, especially for anyone sensitive to recoil.
This model ships with two 15-round magazines from the factory. That 15+1 capacity is on the high end for a .380 ACP pistol, where single-stack designs holding 6 to 8 rounds are far more common.
Yes, the frame-mounted safety doubles as a decocker and it is ambidextrous. That lets you safely lower the hammer on a loaded chamber, so you can carry it hammer down and start with a double-action first pull, or engage the safety with the hammer cocked if you prefer.
