The Taurus GX2 T.O.R.O. is the optics-ready evolution of the GX2 compact 9mm, and it gets the formula right. The slide is milled with a direct-mount RMSc footprint, meaning popular micro red dots like the Holosun 407K, 507K, EPS Carry, SIG ROMEOZero, and Shield RMSc bolt right on without an adapter plate. That matters because eliminating the adapter plate lowers the optic's height over bore, reduces a potential failure point, and gets your dot closer to the sight line for faster target acquisition on the draw. The rest of the pistol is the same GX2 platform that has earned solid reliability marks since its launch: a 3.38" stainless Sharpshooter barrel, 13+1 capacity, polymer frame, stainless steel chassis, and a flat-faced trigger with a hinged trigger safety. The frame also includes a full MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail up front, so adding a weapon light is straightforward. At 19.04 oz unloaded and 6.19" overall, it sits comfortably in the compact carry class without being bulky.
Out of the box, the GX2 T.O.R.O. ships with a fixed white dot front sight and a drift-adjustable rear, both cut to Glock-pattern dovetails. That last part is worth paying attention to: Glock-pattern dovetails unlock a huge aftermarket ecosystem. If you want to upgrade to night sights or high-visibility irons from brands like Trijicon, Ameriglo, or XS Sights, you are not locked into Taurus-specific parts. Run the gun with iron sights until you are ready to add a red dot, then mount one directly to the slide when the time comes. The iron sights co-witness through most micro red dots in the RMSc footprint, so you are not giving anything up in the transition.
The GX2 T.O.R.O. includes an external manual safety in addition to the hinged trigger safety and internal striker block, giving you three layers of mechanical safety. The thumb safety is slim, low-profile, and positioned so it does not bite into your hand during carry or create a snag during the draw. The front of the slide is also dehorned at an angle, which makes reholstering cleaner and reduces fabric catch on concealment garments. Recoil is very manageable for a compact 9mm, largely because the grip is long enough to wrap all four fingers around it comfortably. The GX2 T.O.R.O. is a smart pickup for anyone entering the red dot carry world without wanting to spend premium pistol money to get there.
The GX2 T.O.R.O. uses the Shield RMSc footprint, which has become the standard cut for micro red dots on compact pistols. Compatible optics include the Holosun 407K, 507K, and EPS Carry, the SIG ROMEOZero and ROMEOZero Elite, the Shield RMSc, the Swampfox Sentinel, and the Crimson Trace CTS-1500. All of these mount directly to the slide without an adapter plate.

The thumb safety on the GX2 T.O.R.O. is intentionally slim and low-profile. It takes deliberate activation to engage or disengage, so it is unlikely to be accidentally bumped during carry or the draw. It does not protrude in a way that causes discomfort under a cover garment, which is one of the more practical design choices on this pistol.
Taurus markets the stainless steel barrel on the GX2 line as a Sharpshooter barrel, highlighting its machining standards and 1:10" right-hand twist rate for consistent accuracy. The barrel is finished in stainless steel, which contributes to corrosion resistance, and sits inside the alloy steel slide on a stainless steel chassis for a solid, rigid lockup.
