Description

Short-barrel 5.56 builds and AR pistols come with a downside everyone finds out fast: the muzzle blast can be brutal on you and anyone standing nearby. The TacFire MZ1020SS linear compensator tackles that head on. Instead of venting gas out the sides like a muzzle brake, it channels sound, concussion, and expanding gas forward and away from the shooter. You still hear the shot, but the wall of pressure that normally slaps back at you gets sent downrange where it belongs.

How the MZ1020SS Changes Your Range Day

Linear comps shine most on the guns that need them. If you run an AR pistol or an SBR with a stubby barrel, there is a lot of unburnt powder leaving the muzzle, and that translates to a big fireball and a heavy concussive punch. The MZ1020SS reins that in and makes the gun a lot more pleasant to shoot, especially under a covered firing line or indoors where blast bounces right back. Worth knowing up front: this is a blast redirection device, not a suppressor, so it does not lower the actual decibel level. What it does is move the noise and concussion off of you and your neighbors in the next lane.

Built From Stainless for the Long Haul

This one is machined from stainless steel, so it stands up to the heat and high-pressure gas that muzzle devices live with, and it shrugs off corrosion better than a lot of finishes. It measures right around 2 inches long with a 0.87 inch diameter and weighs in near 3.7 ounces, so it keeps a low profile without adding a bulky can to the front of your gun.

Threading On the TacFire Linear Comp

Installation is about as simple as muzzle devices get. It uses the standard 1/2×28 thread pitch found on nearly every 5.56 and .223 AR-15 barrel, so it drops right into most builds. Pair it with a crush washer or shim kit to time it flush and you are set. Whether you are finishing a fresh AR pistol build or just tired of eating your own blast at the range, this is a straightforward upgrade that earns its keep.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the TacFire MZ1020SS linear compensator make my rifle quieter?

Not in the way a suppressor does. A linear comp does not reduce the actual decibel level of the shot. What it does is redirect the sound and concussion forward and downrange, so the shooter and anyone standing nearby feels a lot less of the blast.

Will this fit my AR-15?

If your barrel has standard 1/2×28 threads, which is the common pitch on 5.56 and .223 AR-15 barrels, it threads right on. Just add a crush washer or shim kit to get it timed and snugged down. Double check your muzzle threads before ordering if you are unsure.

Is a linear compensator worth it on a full-length rifle?

It helps most on short barrels and AR pistols, where unburnt powder creates a big fireball and a heavy concussive slap. You can run it on a longer barrel, but the difference is far more noticeable on stubby setups. If you have a 16 inch or longer barrel, the payoff is smaller.

What is the difference between this and a muzzle brake?

A muzzle brake vents gas out to the sides to fight recoil, which is exactly why brakes are miserable to stand next to on a firing line. The MZ1020SS pushes everything forward instead, so it is far more range-friendly. The tradeoff is that a linear comp does less for felt recoil than a dedicated brake.
