Most wheelguns give you five or six rounds. The Smith & Wesson Performance Center 327 TRR8 gives you eight, and it does it in a scandium alloy N-frame that keeps the whole package at 35.2 ounces unloaded. That is lighter than plenty of six-shot steel revolvers with shorter barrels, which makes this one easy to run through long range days without your wrist filing a complaint. Chambered for .357 Magnum and happy to feed .38 Special +P, it covers everything from full-power practice to softer plinking loads.
This is not a standard production revolver with a fancy paint job. The Performance Center shop hand fits and tunes these, so you get a PC trigger with a trigger stop and an action that feels smooth and consistent in both double and single action. The 5-inch stainless steel barrel wears an E-210 Elite Series Moss Cerakote finish over the frame and barrel, set off by a black stainless cylinder that is cut for moon clips. Three clips come in the box, so fast reloads are on the table right out of the gate.
Up front you get a gold bead sight that stands out sharply against a black bullseye, matched with a black blade adjustable rear so you can dial in your preferred load. Two removable equipment rails ship with the gun, letting you mount a red dot up top or a light underneath, then pull them off when you want the classic revolver profile back. The synthetic grip soaks up magnum recoil better than you would expect from a gun this light.
Competition folks love the eight-round cylinder and moon clip setup for revolver divisions, and the light frame with a 10.5-inch overall length carries well in the field or on a nightstand duty rotation. Add in Smith & Wesson's lifetime service policy and you have a revolver built to be shot hard, not just admired. The Moss green finish is just a bonus that keeps it from looking like everything else in the safe.
Yes. Like most .357 Magnum revolvers, it handles .38 Special including +P loads without any changes. A lot of owners run .38s for cheaper, softer practice sessions and save the magnums for when it counts.
No, they are optional. The cylinder is cut for moon clips and three come in the box, which makes reloads noticeably faster in competition, but the gun fires and ejects rimmed .357 and .38 cases just fine without them.
Yes. It ships with two removable equipment rails, one on top of the barrel for optics and one underneath for a light or laser. If you prefer a cleaner look, both rails come off easily and you still have the gold bead front and adjustable rear sights.
The scandium alloy frame keeps weight down, so full-power magnums have some snap, but the 5 inch barrel, synthetic grip, and overall balance tame it more than the numbers suggest. With .38 Special it is downright pleasant, and most people find magnum loads very manageable for range work.
