The M&P M2.0 Compact hits a sweet spot a lot of pistols miss. It carries like a compact but shoots like something bigger, thanks to Smith & Wesson's extended stainless steel chassis and low bore axis that keep the muzzle flat and get your sights back on target fast. The 3.6 inch stainless barrel wears a tough Armornite finish, and with 15+1 rounds of 9mm on board plus a second 15-round magazine in the box, you're not giving up much to carry it.
The slide comes cut for optics and S&W includes seven mounting plates, so odds are good your red dot bolts right on without hunting down extra hardware. The tall steel white 3-dot sights sit high enough to co-witness through most popular pistol optics, which means you've still got a usable sight picture if your dot ever goes down. Prefer irons? They work great on their own too. Enlarged forward serrations make press checks easy even with cold or sweaty hands.
The flat face M2.0 trigger encourages consistent finger placement and breaks clean with a tactile, audible reset you can ride during fast strings. The grip texture is aggressive enough to stay planted under recoil without chewing up your side during carry, and four interchangeable palmswell inserts let you dial in the fit and trigger reach for your hand. The 18 degree grip angle points naturally, so the sights tend to land where you're already looking.

Yes, the factory white 3-dot sights are taller than standard M&P sights specifically so they co-witness through most popular pistol red dots. That gives you a backup sight picture if your optic battery dies. If you run the gun without an optic, they work just fine as everyday irons.
This version, model 13571, does not have a thumb safety. It relies on internal safeties and a trigger safety instead, which many folks prefer for a defensive pistol since there's nothing extra to manipulate under stress. Smith & Wesson does make a separate thumb safety variant if that's more your style.
It ships from the factory with two 15-round magazines, so you have a spare from day one. Spare and extended M&P M2.0 Compact magazines are widely available if you want to stock up. Full-size 17-round M&P mags also function in it with a sleeve.
