The M&P22 Compact Threaded Barrel is S&W's suppressor-ready answer to affordable, high-quality rimfire training. It's scaled down to roughly 87.5% of the full-size M&P9, which puts it close to Shield territory in terms of size and feel. The grip angle, thumb safety placement, magazine release, and overall ergonomics are all faithful to the M&P family, so if you already shoot a centerfire M&P, picking this up will feel like second nature.
The barrel is threaded from the factory at 3/8×24, and the included thread adapter converts it to the standard 1/2×28 pitch so you can run most common suppressors or muzzle devices without buying aftermarket parts. The aluminum slide wears S&W's Armornite finish for corrosion resistance, and the carbon steel barrel is fixed to the polymer frame, which helps keep weight down to a trim 15.3 oz. It's pretty simple. Lock the slide back, remove the magazine, confirm the chamber is clear, then rotate the takedown lever 90 degrees downward. From there, the slide pulls back and lifts free from the frame. The barrel is fixed to the frame, so once the slide is off you just remove the captured recoil spring and guide rod assembly. Three main pieces total, and the captured guide rod makes reassembly easy.
