Description
Mounting glass to a wheelgun used to mean gunsmithing headaches, but EGW's one-piece Picatinny base takes all of that off the table. This silver rail drops right onto the factory scope mount holes already drilled into your Smith & Wesson revolver, so there's no drilling, tapping, or trip to the shop required. It fits K, L, N, and X frame revolvers, which covers a huge chunk of the S&W adjustable-sight lineup, and it comes with everything you need to get it torqued down and ready for a day at the range.
EGW machines these from domestic 6061-T6 extruded aluminum, then tumbles, sandblasts, and Type II anodizes them for a finish that holds up to recoil and weather. The full-width cross slots are cut to MIL-STD 1913 spec within a couple thousandths, so your rings and optic lock in where they should and stay there. That tight tolerance is the difference between an optic that holds zero and one that walks on you after a few cylinders of magnum loads.
Why This S&W Scope Mount Earns Its Spot
The rail runs full-length cross slots from end to end, giving you real flexibility to slide rings fore and aft and nail your eye relief with a scope, or park a red dot exactly where you want it. There's a milled channel down the center that shaves weight off the mount, and in a lot of setups it leaves your factory iron sights usable as a backup. At right around 2 ounces, it won't throw off the balance of your revolver.
Getting the 49104 Dialed In
Installation is straightforward. EGW recommends 20 inch-pounds of torque and a drip of blue Loctite on the screws so nothing backs out under recoil. The whole package, from the rail to the hardware, is made in the USA. Pair it with a quality set of Picatinny or Weaver rings and you've got a hunting or range-ready optic platform on a revolver that was probably stuck with iron sights before.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Smith & Wesson revolvers does the 49104 scope mount fit?
This mount fits S&W K, L, N, and X frame revolvers that come factory drilled and tapped for a scope base. The bolt pattern lines up with the holes already on the top strap of those adjustable-sight models, so no gunsmithing is needed. If your revolver has an unconventional or undrilled top strap, EGW does offer a no-holes version separately.
Do I have to drill or tap my revolver to install this mount?
No drilling or tapping required for factory-drilled revolvers. The rail bolts directly to the existing scope mount holes using the included screws. EGW recommends torquing to 20 inch-pounds with a drip of blue Loctite so it stays put under recoil.
Will this rail work with a red dot, or just a traditional scope?
Both. Since it's a full-length Picatinny rail cut to MIL-STD 1913 spec, you can run a pistol scope with a set of rings or mount a red dot directly to the slots. The full-length cross slots let you position the optic where your eye relief or sight picture works best.
Can I still use my iron sights with this scope mount installed?
In many cases, yes. The milled center channel on the rail is designed to leave a sight window open, so your factory iron sights can often still be used as a backup. It depends on your specific revolver and sight height, so it's worth checking your particular setup.
