The SureFire M640DF Scout Light Pro Dual Fuel is one of those lights that just makes sense the moment you get it on a rifle. It runs on the included SF18650B rechargeable lithium-ion battery for a full 1,500 lumens, or you can drop in two CR123A cells and still get 1,200 lumens when you're out and about. That flexibility is the whole point here, and it's a big reason folks keep this light on their short list. Behind the TIR lens you get a hybrid beam that throws a defined hot spot out to around 250 meters while still spilling plenty of light around you for close-in work, so it handles everything from clearing a room to spotting something across a field.
The headline feature is the Low-Profile Mount, or LPM. It swivels, so you can rotate the light closer to the rail for a slimmer profile or kick it out to make room for a laser or pressure switch. Mounting hardware for both MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny and M-LOK rails comes in the box, so you're covered whether you're running a quad rail or a modern free-float handguard. The body is aerospace aluminum with a Mil-Spec hard-anodized finish and O-ring seals rated to IPX7, which means it shrugs off recoil, rain, and general abuse the way a SureFire should.
On the rechargeable 18650 you'll see roughly 1.5 hours of runtime at full output with peak intensity around 16,000 candela. Swap to a pair of 123A cells and you're looking at about 1.25 hours. The included battery charges off a USB cable right on the cell, so you don't need a dedicated dock. The rear Z68 click-style tailcap gives you momentary or constant-on control with a shrouded button to prevent accidental activation, and it swaps out for other SureFire Scout tailcaps and remote tape switches if you want to run a different setup down the road.
