The SureFire G2ZX Combatlight is one of those tools that earns its keep fast. It cranks out 600 lumens of brilliant white light from a high-performance LED that has no filament to burn out or shake loose, so it keeps working when a lot of lesser lights would quit. That beam runs through a micro-textured polycarbonate reflector that gives you a tight center hotspot for reaching out to identify what's in the dark, plus generous surround light for keeping tabs on everything around you. This is where the G2ZX really separates itself. The reduced-diameter midsection and rubber grip ring, what SureFire calls the CombatGrip, are shaped specifically for the Rogers/SureFire technique. That means you can hold the light between your index and middle finger and activate it with pressure from the base of your thumb, freeing up both hands to keep a proper grip on your handgun. It holds secure even when your hands are wet, cold, or gloved, which is exactly when you need it to behave.
The body is tough, corrosion-proof Nitrolon polymer, and it's non-conductive and easier on the hands in cold weather than a bare aluminum tube. The bezel up front is Mil-Spec Type III hard-anodized aerospace aluminum, which also pulls heat away from the LED for reliable output. A polycarbonate window handles impacts, and O-ring and gasket sealing keep moisture out. Folks who carry it daily consistently report it survives drops and rough handling without so much as a scuff on the lens.
The tactical tailcap keeps things straightforward under stress. Press for momentary-on when you just need a quick burst, or twist it down for constant-on when you want to leave it running. There are no complicated mode cycles to fumble through, just light when you want it. That kind of no-nonsense operation is a big part of why the G2ZX has such a loyal following among people who actually put it to work.
The G2ZX uses a tactical tailcap rather than a push-button clicky. Press it partway for momentary-on, and twist the tailcap down for constant-on when you want the light to stay running. It's a deliberate, stress-proof design that a lot of trained users prefer since there's nothing to accidentally fumble.
The signature CombatGrip is the whole point here. Its slimmed-down midsection and rubber grip ring let you hold the light between your fingers and activate it with your palm, which supports the Rogers/SureFire technique and keeps both hands on your pistol. It stays secure even with wet, cold, or gloved hands.
It runs on two 123A lithium batteries, which SureFire includes in the box and which carry a long shelf life. You'll get roughly 1.5 hours of regulated 600-lumen runtime per set. Rechargeable 123A cells will work but typically give you noticeably shorter runtime.
