Building your own AR-15 is half the fun, but hunting down parts that actually work together can turn into a headache fast. San Tan Tactical solved that problem with this Everything But The Lower Kit, a 10.5 inch package that hands you nearly every component needed for a suppressor-ready build, all matched and finished by the same company instead of pieced together from a dozen different vendors.
The upper receiver is machined from a single block of 7075-T6 aerospace aluminum, which keeps things light without sacrificing strength where it counts. Paired with it is San Tan's own 5.56 barrel, cut from 41V50 vanadium steel with a 1:7 twist and threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle. Since this is a 10.5 inch barrel, it runs a pistol length gas system, which tends to cycle a little softer and plays nice with a suppressor if that's the direction your build is headed.
San Tan didn't skimp on the internals either. The included BCG is machined from 9310 case hardened steel, magnetic particle inspected, and proof tested to 70,000 psi, so it's built to hold up to real use rather than just look good on a shelf. It also features three gas ports to bleed off extra pressure when you're shooting suppressed, plus an enlarged and chamfered full auto tail that helps the carrier center up faster in the buffer tube and cuts down on carrier tilt. An upgraded ambidextrous charging handle rounds out the operating side of things.
A free float M-LOK handguard keeps the barrel unobstructed for better accuracy and gives you room to mount lights, grips, or optics wherever you need them without adding a lot of extra bulk. Every part in this kit is made in the USA, and since it's designed to bolt right up to a standard AR-15 lower, you're free to pick whatever grip, stock, and trigger setup fits how you actually shoot.
As the name suggests, the lower receiver is the one piece you'll need to source separately. Everything else needed to get a functioning upper assembly, including the barrel, bolt carrier group, charging handle, and handguard, comes in this kit.
It's built to standard AR-15 mil-spec dimensions, so it should mate up with most standard lower receivers on the market. Just make sure your lower is set up for a pistol length gas system and buffer setup to match the way this upper cycles.
Yes, the bolt carrier group has three gas ports built in specifically to bleed off the extra pressure that comes with running a suppressor. That combined with the pistol length gas system makes this a solid starting point for a suppressed build.
This particular kit is built around a 5.56x45mm NATO chambered barrel. It will also safely run .223 Remington ammunition since 5.56 chambers are cut to handle both.
