The Streamlight TLR-2 HL is one of those pieces of gear that earns its spot on a duty gun or a home-defense setup and then just keeps doing its job. It throws a 1,000-lumen blast with a wide beam pattern that lights up a whole room or the far end of a driveway, reaching out to roughly 283 meters, and it pairs that with an integrated red laser for a quick point-and-shoot reference. Two CR123A lithium batteries run it for about 1.5 hours with both the light and laser going at once, and the laser on its own will stretch out to around 45 hours. The body is 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum with a black anodized finish, and the whole thing carries an IPX4 water-resistant rating, so a little rain or a wet range day is a non-issue.
The rail grip clamp system is the part people tend to appreciate most day to day. It snugs onto Glock-style and MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails and clamps down from the side, so you never put your hand in front of the muzzle to attach or remove it. It ships with a set of rail locating keys for Glock-style, Picatinny, Beretta 90two, S&W 99, S&W TSW, and SIG P320, which covers a huge swath of pistols right out of the box. The ambidextrous switch works the same for right or left-handed use and gives you three modes: LED only, laser only, or both together. Strobe is user-programmable, so if you want it you can enable it with a rapid double-tap, and if you would rather it stay out of the way, you can shut it off entirely.
The red laser uses bushing-mounted windage and elevation screws built specifically for holding zero, and the mount is designed for repeatable positioning if you take the light on and off. A 10 to 25 yard zero tends to work well for most defensive pistols. Any time you move the light to a different gun, it is worth confirming your zero again before you count on it. Folks run these on full-size duty pistols, home-defense handguns, and even AR-pattern rifles, and it drops into most existing light-bearing holsters without a fuss.

Running the light and laser together, you get about 1.5 hours on two CR123A lithium cells. If you use the laser by itself, it will stretch out to roughly 45 hours. CR123A lithiums also have a long shelf life, so a spare set stored away stays ready for years.
Yes, it has a user-programmable strobe. You can enable it and trigger it with a rapid double-tap of the momentary switch, or disable it entirely using Streamlight's tap-programming sequence if you would rather keep things simple.
