The Strike Industries GRIDLOK Lightspeed 9-inch handguard is built for folks running the HK416 family who want a faster, lighter way to reconfigure their rifle. Instead of wrestling with the factory rail every time you need to touch a gas block or thread on a can, this one uses the patent-pending GRIDLOK Quick Rail Detach latch to come off with a simple push and pull. It mounts directly on the factory HK OEM barrel nut, so you can pull the standard HK rail and run the GRIDLOK as your primary, then keep the HK piece as a backup for other setups.
The Lightspeed name comes down to the top rail. Unlike the Full Duty version that carries a full-length 1913 Picatinny rail up top, the Lightspeed keeps Picatinny sections only at the front and rear. That trims weight where you don't need it while still giving you real estate for a front sight and a rear optic or backup. Speaking of sights, there's an integrated flip-up front backup iron sight built right into the nose of the rail, which is a nice touch when you want redundancy without bolting on extra hardware.
Accessories mount cleanly thanks to M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, so lights, foregrips, lasers, and pressure pads all have a home. Toward the rear you'll find four 360-degree free-swivel QD sockets at the 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock spots for flexible sling routing. A rear rail tab indexes into the HK upper receiver to keep the top rail centered and your optic aligned. The front is cut to clear suppressors up to 1.57 inches in diameter, so most cans and every SI muzzle device, including the OPPRESSOR line, tuck right in.
Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, this is a single-piece free-float design that keeps things strong without adding bulk. It's compatible with the HK416, HK416 A5, HK416 A7, MR556, and M27 IAR platforms. Just note it's made for models without ambidextrous sling attachment points, which covers current-production MR556 and HK416 rifles.

Both share the same quick-detach latch, M-LOK slots, and barrel nut mounting, so it really comes down to whether you want a continuous top rail or a lighter setup.
It's designed for the HK416, HK416 A5, HK416 A7, MR556, and M27 IAR platforms. The one thing to check is that your rifle does not have ambidextrous sling attachment points, since older versions with those loops aren't compatible. Current-production MR556 and HK416 rifles don't have those loops, so most modern guns are good to go.
The rail mounts onto the factory HK OEM barrel nut and locks in with the GRIDLOK quick-detach latch, so day-to-day removal and reinstallation is tool-free with a simple push and pull. The two locking screws at the base are best set before the handguard is mounted on the barrel nut rather than adjusted after it's installed. Yes. The front cutout is built to clear suppressors up to 1.57 inches (39.9mm) in diameter, along with all SI muzzle devices including the OPPRESSOR line for that tucked look. Because the whole rail pops off quickly, installing or removing a can is a lot easier than with a fixed handguard.
