Description

The M&P Shield is a fantastic little carry gun, but that short magazine leaves a lot of folks with a pinky dangling off the bottom. The Strike Industries EMP (Enhanced Magazine Plate) fixes both of the classic Shield complaints at once: it stretches the grip out for a full-hand hold and bumps up your round count. On a 9mm Shield you pick up two extra rounds, and on the .40 S&W you gain one. That takes a stock 7-round 9mm mag up to nine, so with one in the pipe you're carrying 9+1 in a pocket-sized package.

What the Strike Industries EMP Brings to Your Shield

This is a molded polymer plate finished in black, with texturing that lines up with the factory Shield grip so it looks like it belongs there instead of a bolt-on afterthought. It conceals well despite the added length, and larger-handed folks tend to notice the difference in control right away. The EMP works with both standard and extended-length factory Shield magazines, so you've got some flexibility in how you set up your carry and backup mags.

Installing the EMP-MPS the Right Way

Strike includes their steel locking plate and set screw in the kit, and that locking plate uses a hook design meant to add extra security when the mag is loaded to the top. Installation is quick with basic tools. One thing worth knowing: don't overtighten the set screw. Once it sits flush with the back of the EMP body, you're done. The locking plate may feel slightly loose at that point, and that's normal. If you're running the higher-capacity factory mags, you may need to trim the factory spacer slightly for a flush fit, which a bit of light filing handles.

Where the EMP Fits and Where It Doesn't

This one is built for the S&W M&P 9 and .40 Shield. It is not made for the M&P Shield Plus, the .45 ACP Shield, or the full-size, compact, or sub-compact M&P pistols, so match it to the right gun before you order. For Shield owners who want more rounds and a fuller grip without changing the profile of a proven carry gun, it's an easy and affordable upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rounds does the Strike Industries EMP add to my M&P Shield?

On a 9mm M&P Shield magazine it adds two rounds, taking a standard 7-round mag up to nine. On a .40 S&W Shield magazine it adds one round. With a round in the chamber, that puts a 9mm Shield at 9+1.

Does the EMP fit the M&P Shield Plus or the newer 2.0 models?

This extension is made for the S&W M&P 9 and .40 Shield and is not compatible with the M&P Shield Plus. It also does not fit the .45 ACP Shield or the full-size, compact, or sub-compact M&P pistols. The Shield M&P 9 and the 2.0 use the same magazines, so it works there as intended.

Is the Strike Industries EMP hard to install?

Not at all. It goes on with the included steel locking plate and set screw using basic tools. The key is to stop tightening the set screw once it sits flush with the back of the EMP body, since overtightening can cause problems. If you run the higher-capacity factory magazines, you may need to lightly trim the factory spacer for a flush fit.

Does the EMP make my Shield harder to conceal?

It adds a bit of length to the grip, but the molded design was built to blend with the Shield's factory ergonomics and texture, so it conceals well for its size. Most folks find the added grip real estate is worth it, especially if your pinky normally hangs off the bottom of a stock mag.
