Anyone who has fumbled with an AR-10 lower knows the drill: a slipped pin punch, a detent spring launched somewhere across the shop, and a good ten minutes spent on your knees looking for it. The Strike Industries AR-10 Shift Pins were built to put an end to that headache. This is the chrome version, machined from solid steel and finished in bright chrome plating that adds a little flash to your build while resisting corrosion.
The magic is in the design. Each pin gets an oversized, textured head with flat gripping surfaces, so you can work it loose with finger pressure instead of hunting down a punch. A machined slot lets you rotate the pin to lock it securely in place or to release it, so takedown and reassembly become a quick twist-and-pull motion. Best of all, you can swap these in without pulling your endplate, castle nut, or buffer tube.
The set uses enhanced detent pins that retain inside the pin spring, which is the part builders really appreciate. No more compressing a spring while a tiny detent waits to disappear into the void. That alone makes installing or servicing a lower far less frustrating, and it means fewer trips to the parts bin for replacements you dropped and never found.
These are a direct replacement for most AR-10 and LR-308 takedown and pivot pins, and they drop into most forged and billet receivers. The pivot pin measures 1.67 inches and the takedown pin 1.21 inches. Because there is no true mil-spec standard across the .308 platform, tolerances vary between manufacturers, so a little movement on some receivers is normal. They will not fit Armalite AR-10 lowers, and if you are running a PDW-style stock the extended head can bind against the slide rods, so keep that in mind before ordering.
Yes. The textured, oversized heads give you enough grip to work the pins loose with your fingers, and the rotating slot lets you lock them in or release them by hand. Some builders keep a small flathead handy for stubborn fitments, but the whole point of the design is a nearly tool-free process.
They fit most forged and billet AR-10 and LR-308 receivers as a direct replacement for standard takedown and pivot pins. Since the .308 platform has no universal mil-spec standard, some slight movement between brands is normal. They do not fit Armalite AR-10 lowers, so check your receiver before ordering.
The included detent pins are designed to retain inside the pin spring rather than sitting loose. That means you are far less likely to launch a detent across the room during assembly, which is one of the most common frustrations when working on an AR lower.
It is not recommended. Because of the compact design of PDW stocks and stabilizers, the extended head on the Shift Pins can bind against or fail to clear the slide rods. If you are running a standard buffer tube setup, you are good to go.
