Streamlight built the TLR-7X for folks who want a dependable, no-nonsense light on their handgun without adding a bunch of bulk. It throws 500 lumens with a peak of 5,000 candela, pushing a focused beam out to roughly 140 meters. That's plenty of reach and brightness for defensive use, target ID in the dark, or clearing a room without washing everything out. The custom TIR optic gives you a tight center beam with enough surrounding spill to keep your peripheral vision working.
The big draw here is the multi-fuel setup. This FDE model ships ready to run on a single CR123A lithium battery, which gets you about 1.5 hours of runtime and is easy to find just about anywhere. If you'd rather go rechargeable, it also accepts Streamlight's SL-B9 USB-C battery pack (sold separately) so you can top it off without buying cells. Having both options means you're never stuck hunting for power.
This is the Flex version, which means it comes with both high and low interchangeable rear paddle switches. You swap them with the included multi-tool to set the paddle height that fits your grip and trigger reach. The switches are ambidextrous with momentary and constant-on operation, plus a user-programmable strobe if you want it. A safe-off feature keeps the light from getting bumped on in the holster and draining your battery.
The body is machined from anodized aircraft aluminum and carries an IPX7 rating, so it shrugs off drops, weather, and a dunk in water up to a meter for half an hour. The rail-grip clamp snaps on and tightens from the side, which keeps your hands well clear of the muzzle during install and removal. An included key kit lets it lock up securely across a broad range of full-size and compact railed handguns. At just under 2.6 inches long and right around 2.5 ounces, it stays out of the way and won't throw off the balance of your pistol.
