It drops into RCBS Gold Medal Match Series sizing dies and lets you size only the case neck to a precise diameter, giving you direct control over how firmly the brass grips the bullet. No more relying on an expander ball to set tension after the fact. You pick the bushing, the bushing sets the number.
The bushing is self-centering, so it aligns itself with the case neck as the round moves up into the die. Because it sizes the neck directly rather than oversizing and then pulling it back out with an expander, it works the brass less. That means less work hardening, longer case life, and more consistent runout from one piece to the next. These bushings are made from bare steel and ship in-the-white, so plan on using case lube as part of your process.
There are two common ways to land on your number. Measure the outside neck diameter of a loaded round and subtract roughly .002 to .003 inch, which leaves about .001 inch of spring-back for proper grip. Or measure your neck wall thickness, double it, add your bullet diameter, then subtract about .001 inch. RCBS suggests keeping a bushing or two above and below your target so you can fine-tune tension at the bench without stopping a session. You'll get the most out of any bushing when you run quality brass with consistent neck thicknesses, since the bushing can only size what the brass hands it.
