Starline has spent decades earning a reputation as some of the cleanest, most consistent brass on the market, and this 38 Short Colt offering is no exception. These are factory new, unprimed cases built to tight tolerances so you get even wall thickness, uniform case weights, and reliable feeding when you run them through your dies. If you shoot a 38 Short Colt or just want a shorter, lighter load for a 38 Special or 357 Magnum revolver, this brass gives you a clean slate to build exactly the load you want.
The 38 Short Colt is essentially a shortened 38 Special, with these cases running right around 0.754 to 0.761 inches in length. That shorter case makes it a favorite in cowboy action circles, where lighter powder charges and soft recoil help keep splits fast and follow up shots on target. It can be fired in most guns chambered for 38 Special or 357 Magnum, which makes it a handy option for reduced loads in those revolvers. One thing worth knowing up front: it is not a substitute for 38 S&W, since the case dimensions are different even though the two can look similar at a glance.
Because these are unprimed, you have full control over your primer choice and powder workup. They take standard small pistol primers, and reloaders have had good luck across a range of charge weights with cast lead bullets for accurate, low recoil loads. The brass is headstamped for easy identification in a mixed bin, and Starline's quality control means you spend less time sorting out bad cases and more time at the bench.
This is a go-to for cowboy action competitors, bullseye shooters, and anyone who enjoys building light, pleasant practice loads. It is also a smart pickup for handloaders who want brass that holds up through multiple reloading cycles, which is exactly where Starline tends to shine.
These cases are set up for small pistol primers. They ship unprimed, so you pick the primer brand that works best with your load. That gives you full control over your powder workup from the start.
Yes, 38 Short Colt can be fired in most guns chambered for 38 Special or 357 Magnum since it is essentially a shortened 38 Special case. Many folks use it to build light, low recoil practice loads in those revolvers. Just confirm your specific firearm handles the shorter case well before running a full session.
No, it is not. While the two can look similar at a glance, the case dimensions are different, so 38 Short Colt is not a substitute for 38 S&W. Always match your brass to the correct chambering.
These are factory new, unprimed Starline cases, not range pickups or reconditioned brass. Starline builds their cases to tight tolerances with a focus on consistency, which means less sorting and more reliable reloading cycles. It is a clean starting point for working up accurate loads.
