Description

The 357 Remington Maximum is one of those cartridges that lives and dies by the reloading bench, and Starline makes the brass that keeps it running. These are new, unprimed cases built specifically for the Rem Max, which is essentially a 357 Magnum case stretched roughly three tenths of an inch longer to hold bigger powder charges and push heavier bullets. If you shoot a Ruger Blackhawk, a Dan Wesson, a T/C Contender, or any of the single-shot rifles chambered for this round, loaded ammo is basically nonexistent, so quality brass like this is where every round starts.

What Sets Starline 357 Max Brass Apart

Starline runs a vertically drawn, annealed, and hand-inspected process at their plant in Sedalia, Missouri. That attention shows up at the bench. Handloaders consistently report these cases arrive clean with no dents or dinged mouths, and they hold up through repeated loading cycles without head expansion, case stretch, or loose primer pockets. For a cartridge that often gets pushed hard, that kind of durability matters.

Loading the 357 Remington Maximum

A couple of things to know before you get started. The Rem Max uses a small rifle primer, not a standard pistol primer, which is how the cartridge was designed from the factory to handle the slower powders and larger charges it was built around. Case length runs 1.590 to 1.600 inches. These cases generally do not need resizing before the first loading, though it is always smart to inspect each one and size to your seating depth. One important note: because of the internal taper of the case, 357 Maximum brass cannot be trimmed down to 357 Magnum length.

A Favorite for Wildcatters Too

Beyond straight Rem Max duty, this brass has a loyal following among folks who neck it down for custom chamberings in everything from .17 caliber on up through .30 caliber. It forms and fire-forms cleanly, and case life tends to beat expectations. Whether you are feeding a silhouette revolver, a Contender barrel, or a wildcat project, this is dependable brass to build on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these Starline 357 Remington Maximum cases come primed?

No, these are unprimed brass cases intended as a reloading component. They are not loaded ammunition and cannot be fired as-is. You will need to prime, charge, and seat a bullet before they are ready to shoot.

What primer size does the 357 Remington Maximum use?

The 357 Rem Max is designed to use a small rifle primer rather than a standard small pistol primer. This is how the cartridge was built from the start to handle the slower powders and larger charges it holds. Stick with small rifle primers for best results.

Can I trim 357 Maximum brass down to 357 Magnum?

No. Because of the internal taper of the 357 Maximum case, it cannot be trimmed down to 357 Magnum length. If you need 357 Magnum brass, you will want to buy cases made specifically for that cartridge.

What firearms use 357 Remington Maximum brass?

The cartridge was developed in the early 1980s by Ruger and Remington as a silhouette round for the Blackhawk revolver. It has also been chambered in Dan Wesson revolvers and single-shot rifles and pistols like the Thompson/Center Contender. Many handloaders also neck this brass down for custom wildcat projects.
