There is nothing else on the shotgun rack quite like the DP-12. Standard Manufacturing took the bullpup concept and doubled it, giving you two 18.875 inch barrels fed by twin 7-round magazine tubes. One pump chambers both barrels, and the single trigger fires them one at a time, so you get two quick shots between every stroke of the forend. With 14 rounds in the tubes plus two chambered, you are working with 16 rounds of 12 gauge before a reload, all in a package just 29.5 inches long.
The second generation keeps everything that made the original a hit and trims it up with a patented polymer and aluminum frame built around a machined 7075 aluminum receiver, plus a new barrel contour. The 3 inch chambers digest 2.75 or 3 inch shells, empties eject straight down out of the way, and witness windows cut into both magazine tubes let you check your shell count at a glance. The safety and slide release are fully ambidextrous, which matters more than usual on a gun that ejects from the bottom.
At around 9.75 pounds unloaded, the DP-12 Gen II has some heft, and that weight works in your favor. Pair it with the dual spring shock absorbing buttpad and the co-molded rubber pistol grip and this thing is far softer shooting than you would guess for a 16-round 12 gauge. The included vertical foregrip rides on a 7-slot bottom rail, and the 13.75 inch top Picatinny rail gives you plenty of room for a red dot, light mount, or whatever else you want up top.
Both barrels are threaded with the common Tru-Choke pattern and come with spreader chokes installed, tuned to throw a wide, effective pattern at close to mid range. A choke wrench ships in the box, and the aftermarket has plenty of Tru-Choke options if you want to tighten things up. Fair warning: this shotgun draws a crowd at the range, so expect to answer some questions between strings.
Each pump of the forend chambers a shell in both barrels from the twin magazine tubes. The single trigger then fires one barrel per pull, alternating between them, so you get two shots before you need to run the action again. Empties eject downward out of the bottom of the receiver.
The Gen II uses a new patented polymer and aluminum frame along with a revised barrel contour, which cleans up the profile and shaves some bulk compared to the first generation. The core operating system, capacity, and controls carry over unchanged, so it runs the same as the original.
Yes. Both barrels are threaded with the widely used Tru-Choke pattern and ship with spreader chokes installed, plus a wrench in the box. Standard Manufacturing sells extended breacher chokes separately, and plenty of aftermarket Tru-Choke tubes will fit if you want tighter patterns.
Less than you would expect. Between the 9.75 pound weight, the dual spring shock absorbing buttpad, and the bullpup balance, felt recoil is noticeably tamer than a typical lightweight 12 gauge pump. One tip: run the pump with authority, since short stroking it can keep the second barrel from setting up properly.
