The Springfield Hellcat Pro OSP is the stretched-out, higher-capacity evolution of the original Hellcat, and it hits a sweet spot that a lot of carry guns miss. At just over 6.6 inches long and barely an inch wide, it carries like a compact but holds 15+1 rounds flush — the same capacity as a Glock 19 in a much slimmer, more concealable package. That's a genuinely impressive achievement.
The OSP designation means the slide is milled to the Springfield Micro footprint, which is compatible with popular micro red dots like the Shield RMSc and SMSc, Swampfox Sentinel, and Springfield's own HEX Wasp. Importantly, the rear sight is positioned behind the optic cut, so you keep your iron sights even after mounting a dot — no need to pull the sights off when you go optics. Speaking of irons, the factory setup here is notably good: a tritium and luminescent front sight paired with a white-outlined U-notch rear that picks up fast in any lighting condition.
The 3.7-inch barrel is hammer-forged steel with a Melonite finish and a 1:10 twist rate, giving you solid ballistic performance and long-term durability. The slide itself runs front, rear, and top serrations for positive grip during manipulations. Down on the frame, the Adaptive Grip Texture uses a staggered pyramid pattern — aggressive enough to hold on without tearing up your skin or your concealment garment. The frame also includes a Picatinny rail for mounting a light or laser, which is something a lot of compact carry guns skip.
The striker-fired action runs a trigger pull in the six-pound range — serviceable and consistent for a carry gun. The magazine release is user-reversible for left-handed shooters. One thing worth noting: the rear sight stays in place behind the optic cut, so you retain your iron sights even with a red dot mounted. This particular model (HCP9379BOSP-15) does not have a manual thumb safety — it relies on a trigger safety integrated into the trigger shoe, which is the standard setup for most striker-fired carry guns. Springfield does offer a Hellcat Pro variant with a manual ambidextrous thumb safety for those who prefer one, so make sure you're ordering the configuration that matches your preference.
The standard Hellcat Pro OSP ships with two magazines. Note that this specific 15-round configuration (MPN HCP9379BOSP-15) includes two flush-fit 15-round magazines, while other Hellcat Pro variants ship with one 15-round and one 17-round extended magazine. The 15-round magazines are flush-fit and sit level with the base of the grip, while the 17-round extended mag adds a bit of grip for larger hands. Hellcat Pro magazines are not cross-compatible with the original smaller Hellcat.
The Hellcat Pro is a step up in nearly every dimension — it's about a half-inch longer, the barrel is 0.7 inches longer at 3.7 inches, and the grip is taller to accommodate the 15-round flush magazine versus the original Hellcat's 11-round flush mag. The longer grip and slightly heavier slide translate to better shootability and more manageable recoil, while still keeping an overall width of just over an inch for solid concealability.
It's one of the strongest options in the compact carry category right now. At just over 20 ounces unloaded and barely an inch wide, it carries comfortably IWB all day, and the 15+1 capacity rivals full-size duty pistols. The tritium night sights, optic-ready slide, Picatinny rail, and hammer-forged barrel make it a genuinely feature-complete carry gun without needing any immediate upgrades out of the box.
Both the slide and barrel are coated in Springfield's Melonite finish, which is a salt-bath ferritic nitrocarburizing process that creates exceptional surface hardness and corrosion resistance. It's the same type of finish used on many duty-grade firearms and holds up well to daily carry, sweat, and regular range use. Normal holster wear will appear over time on contact points, but it doesn't affect function.
