There are a lot of compact 9mms on the market, but not many come from the factory with a compensator that doesn't mess with your existing holsters. Springfield pulled that off with the Echelon 4.0C Comp. The single-port compensator is machined directly into the billet slide and cold hammer-forged barrel, redirecting gas upward to reduce muzzle rise without tacking on any extra length. Springfield also had the foresight to position the front tritium sight behind the comp port, so your sight picture stays clean no matter what.

What Makes the Echelon 4.0C Comp Different

The heart of this pistol is the Central Operating Group, a fully self-contained, serialized stainless steel chassis that sits inside the polymer grip module. That means the serialized part of the firearm is the chassis itself, not the grip, which lets you swap grip modules to fit your hand size without any additional paperwork. The small module ships standard with three interchangeable backstraps, and medium and large modules are available separately. Everything is fully ambidextrous, from the slide stop to the magazine release.

The Variable Interface System is where the optics story gets interesting. Rather than relying on adapter plates, the VIS uses patent-pending self-locking pins that can be repositioned to match the footprint of over 30 popular red dots, securing them directly to the slide. The pins apply lateral pressure as mounting screws are torqued, which locks out left-right movement and keeps your point of aim consistent shot to shot.

Echelon 4.0C Comp Trigger and Shooting Performance

The flat-face trigger is built entirely within the chassis, with critical components machined from tool steel and polished for a clean takeup, a defined wall, and a crisp break with a short positive reset. Combine that with the compensator doing its job on muzzle rise, and fast, controlled follow-up shots come a lot more naturally than they do out of a standard compact. Real-world testing across multiple grain weights, from 115 to 147 grain, has shown no reliability concerns, and the integral design means you get all the benefits without the cleaning headache of a bolt-on compensator.

The 4.0C Comp ships with both a flush 15-round magazine and an extended 18-round magazine, both finished in a scratch-resistant blackout coating built for hard use. A loaded chamber indicator, accessory rail for weapon lights, and deep multi-angle serrations on the slide round out a pistol that's clearly thought through from end to end.
