Springfield's Echelon platform already had a lot going for it when it launched, and the 4.5F Comp Gear Pac takes that foundation and stacks on every practical upgrade you'd actually want. At the heart of the gun is the Central Operating Group, a self-contained, serialized stainless-steel chassis that houses the entire trigger and striker assembly. It lifts out without tools, which means you can swap grip modules to dial in the fit for your hand size, and all the critical internal components are right there for easy inspection and cleaning.
The compensator isn't a muzzle device threaded onto the barrel. It's a single port machined directly into the top of the hammer-forged barrel and slide, so the gun stays the same overall length as a standard Echelon 4.5F. Gas vents upward through that port and pushes back against muzzle rise in real time. During quick follow-up shots, the difference is noticeable. The front sight is also positioned rearward of the port, so gas doesn't obscure your sight picture or foul the front sight post. The trigger itself rides in around 4.5 to 5 pounds, with a flat-faced bow, clean take-up, a defined wall, and a short, tactile reset that's easy to feel during rapid fire.
The Gear Pac version removes the guesswork from getting set up. The Viridian RFX11 green dot is already mounted and ready to zero, not waiting in a separate package or mail-in rebate. The RFX11 uses a custom footprint designed specifically for the Echelon's Variable Interface System, sitting directly on the slide without adapter plates or shimming. It runs a crisp 3 MOA green dot, Instant-On motion-activated power, automatic brightness adjustment via ambient light sensor, and a 30,000-hour battery life on a single CR2032. Four 15-round magazines and a heavy-duty nylon zippered range bag round out the package.
The Variable Interface System is worth calling out on its own. Rather than the adapter-plate approach most optics-ready pistols use, the Echelon's VIS uses self-locking pins that configure for your specific optic's footprint, supporting over 30 different red dot options. If you ever want to run a different optic down the road, you're covered. Controls are fully ambidextrous, interchangeable backstraps in small, medium, and large are included, and the slide features aggressive front and rear serrations plus a forward trench cut that makes press checks and one-handed manipulations straightforward.
Yes, the Viridian RFX11 green dot comes factory-installed on the slide, not just thrown in the box. Springfield uses a custom Echelon-specific version of the RFX11 that mounts directly to the Variable Interface System without adapter plates, so the fit is clean and flush from the factory. You just need to zero it at the range and you're good to go.
The compensator is machined directly into the barrel and slide as a single upward-venting port, so it doesn't add any length to the gun compared to a standard Echelon 4.5F. Because it's built into the slide, it also stays perfectly aligned with every shot. The VIS system uses self-locking pins that reconfigure for different optic footprints, supporting over 30 red dot sights without adapter plates. It covers the three primary footprints on the market, including Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and the Shield RMS/SMS pattern. If you want to run a different optic later, you're not locked in to any single choice.
The RFX11 is a 3 MOA green dot reflex sight running a single CR2032 battery rated for 30,000 hours of runtime at mid-brightness. It uses Viridian's Instant-On motion-activated power system, meaning it wakes up the moment the gun moves and conserves battery after about two minutes of inactivity.
