The cam pin is one of those parts most folks never think twice about. You pull the BCG apart to clean it, drop the cam pin back in whatever way it lands, and move on. Forward Controls Design teamed up with Chad Albrecht of School of American Rifle to fix that with the SCP, a TDP-spec cam pin machined from 4340 steel and heat treated to spec, then given a durable black nitride finish.
There's a machined dimple on one side of the cam pin, and that's the whole idea. A cam pin tends to wear harder on one face, so flipping it randomly every time you reassemble creates uneven wear that eventually leaves it sloppy and loose in the bolt. Keep the dimple facing the same way every reinstall and that one side stays intact, which holds a tighter fit and cuts down wear on both the pin and the cam pin bore in the bolt.
The point here isn't really saving a few bucks on a cam pin. It's reducing the wear and stress that gets passed into the bolt itself, since a loose, worn pin contributes to bolt failure over a hard-use lifespan. That's why Forward Controls runs the nitride SCP in their own SBCG carriers. It's a small, elegant upgrade that lines up with how they build everything: function first.
This drops into standard AR-15 and M16 bolt carrier groups with no fitting or fuss. Guys who've swapped these in report a nice tight, consistent fit across a range of carriers, and the nitride coating is slick and easy to clean. Worth noting the SCP is not compatible with the KAC SR15 BCG, so if you're running a Knight's setup you'll want to look elsewhere. For everyone else building a duty gun or just wanting a longer-lasting BCG, it's about as easy an upgrade as it gets.
