Description

The Liberty Charging Handle from Sons of Liberty Gun Works takes a part most folks never think about and quietly makes it better. It's a fully ambidextrous handle, so you get the same fluid, consistent pull whether you're running the gun on your strong side or switching to support side. The latches are shaped and textured to grab easy without snagging on optics, mounts, or the rest of your setup, and the whole thing is machined from a solid piece of 7075 aluminum. There's no plastic here and nothing to flex or fail when you're charging the rifle in a hurry.

What Sets the Liberty Standard Latch Apart

This is the standard latch version, which runs about .2 inches wider than SOLGW's narrow latch model. That extra width gives you a bigger, more positive surface to work with, which really shows its worth when you've got a chunky magnified optic sitting over the top of the receiver. If you've ever fumbled a small latch with gloves on or fought a scope for room, the wider standard latch solves that problem in a hurry.

Built for Suppressed and Unsuppressed Rifles

The Liberty Charging Handle uses a raised lip at the rear that seals against the back of the upper receiver. That seal helps interrupt gas flow when you're shooting suppressed, which cuts down on the blowback and grit that ends up in your face and eyes on a can-equipped gun. Run it suppressed or not and it works the same either way, but the design detail is a genuine perk for anybody with a suppressor in the mix.

Finish and Fit

The body is anodized to Mil-Spec Hard Coat Type III in a clean matte black, so it wears well and matches most uppers without looking out of place. It drops into most standard AR-15 platforms chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. SOLGW likes to say they didn't reinvent the wheel here, they just refined a proven design and made it tougher and easier to run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Liberty Charging Handle fit my AR-15?

Yes, it's built for standard AR-15 platforms chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. It drops in as a direct replacement for your factory charging handle with no gunsmithing needed. If you're running an AR-10 or another large-frame rifle, this 5.56 version won't be the right fit.

What's the difference between the standard latch and the narrow latch version?

The standard latch is about .2 inches wider than the narrow latch model, giving you a larger, easier-to-grab surface. That extra room is handy when you've got a big magnified optic overhanging the receiver. The narrow latch matches USGI width at 2.17 inches and is better suited to lower-profile optics or shooters worried about snagging on bulky gear.

Does the Liberty Charging Handle help with suppressed shooting?

It does. The rear of the handle has a raised lip that seals against the back of the upper receiver to interrupt gas flow during suppressed fire. That means less blowback and gas coming toward your face when running a can, though it works just as well on an unsuppressed rifle.

Is the Liberty Charging Handle all metal?

Yes, the body is machined from a single piece of aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum with no plastic parts. It's then anodized to Mil-Spec Hard Coat Type III specs for durability. That all-metal construction is a big reason it holds up better than a lot of factory handles.
