There's something about that Old School Camo pattern that takes you right back to the duck blinds of the 80s and 90s, and Silver Eagle leaned into it with the Alpha 2. This version wraps the synthetic stock and forend in that retro camo while the steel receiver and 28 inch barrel wear a Green Cerakote finish, so you get vintage looks with modern corrosion protection. Underneath the nostalgia is a working waterfowl and field gun chambered for 3 inch 12 gauge shells with a 4+1 capacity.
The Alpha 2 runs on an improved inertia system with Silver Eagle's Sure-Loc bolt, which locks up solid on every shot. Compared to gas guns, inertia actions dump less carbon into the receiver, so you spend more time hunting and less time scrubbing. The bolt handle and bolt release are both oversized, and the feed port is enlarged too, which matters a lot more than it sounds when you're loading with cold, wet hands or a pair of gloves in a December marsh.
The 28 inch barrel is chrome lined for durability and easier cleanup, topped with a full length vent rib and fiber optic front sight that keeps your eye on birds in low light. The muzzle is threaded for the popular Crio Plus pattern, and Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes ship with the gun, covering everything from close decoying ducks to longer passing shots. A thick, soft recoil pad takes the sting out of heavy 3 inch loads, and shims are included so you can tweak the stock fit to your build.
At a shade over six pounds this gun carries easily on long walks to the blind, swings naturally on crossing birds, and does double duty on the skeet range in the off season. Imported by TR Imports, the Alpha 2 delivers a lot of features for a workhorse semi auto, with a look that will get compliments at the boat ramp.
The Alpha 2 uses an inertia driven action with Silver Eagle's Sure-Loc bolt system. Inertia guns run cleaner than gas operated shotguns since combustion gases aren't cycled through the action, which means less frequent deep cleaning. It's the same general operating concept made famous by higher priced Italian semi autos.
The barrel is threaded for the Crio Plus choke pattern, which is widely available from aftermarket makers. Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes come with the gun, so you're covered for most hunting and clays situations right out of the box.
The Alpha 2 has a 3 inch chamber and handles both 2-3/4 and 3 inch shells. Like most inertia driven shotguns, it cycles best with loads that have a bit of authority behind them, so standard field and waterfowl loads run great. Very light target loads may need a short break-in period before they cycle with full consistency, which is typical for this action type.
That's exactly what this configuration is built for. The 28 inch chrome lined barrel, fiber optic front sight, Cerakote metal finish, and oversized bolt handle and release all point toward wet, cold conditions in a duck blind. The enlarged controls are especially handy when you're loading with gloved or numb fingers.
