There is a lot to like about a short-barreled semi-auto that does not overcomplicate things, and the Alpha 2 from TR Imports fits that bill. This version wears an 18.5 inch chrome-lined steel barrel, a fixed camo synthetic stock with a pistol grip, and holds 4+1 with a 3 inch chamber. At roughly 6.11 pounds unloaded, it carries easy whether it is riding in the truck, leaning in the corner, or coming along on a hog hunt.
TR Imports gave the Alpha 2 an enlarged bolt release tab, a bigger bolt handle, and an opened-up feed port. That sounds like a small detail until you are loading shells with numb fingers or thick gloves in late season. The controls are simple to find and easy to work, and the inertia-driven action keeps things running clean since it does not dump gas fouling back into the receiver the way gas guns do. The chrome-lined bore adds corrosion resistance and makes cleanup quicker after a wet day out.
Right in the box you get three Crio Plus choke tubes in Cylinder, Modified, and Full, which covers a wide spread of jobs. Run the Cylinder tube with buckshot for close work, screw in the Modified for general field duty, or go Full when you need tight patterns at distance. TR Imports also includes three shims so you can tweak the stock fit to your build, something you rarely see at this end of the market.
TR Imports is a Turkish-American joint venture, and their shotguns have earned a reputation for delivering solid features without the premium price tag. The Alpha 2 in this short camo configuration is a do-it-all 12 gauge: compact enough for home duty, threaded for chokes so it can hunt, and light enough that you will not think twice about grabbing it on the way out the door.
The Alpha 2 runs on an inertia-driven action. That means less gas fouling in the receiver compared to gas guns, so it stays cleaner longer between scrubbings and tends to shrug off dirty or wet conditions. It is a proven system that has been used in premium semi-autos for decades.
Yes, the Alpha 2 has a 3 inch chamber, so it handles both 2-3/4 inch and 3 inch 12 gauge shells. Like most inertia guns, it cycles best with loads that have a bit of punch to them. Very light target loads can be hit or miss in short-barreled inertia shotguns until the action breaks in.
It ships with three Crio Plus pattern choke tubes: Cylinder, Modified, and Full. The threaded barrel means you can swap between them for defense loads, general field use, or tighter long-range patterns. Aftermarket Crio Plus compatible tubes are widely available if you want to expand the set.
The short 18.5 inch barrel, pistol grip stock, and 4+1 capacity make it well suited for that role. It is also light at around 6.11 pounds, so it maneuvers easily indoors. The enlarged bolt handle and release are a real plus when you need to run the gun quickly under stress.
