PROOF Research built this 18-inch carbon fiber pre-fit specifically for the SIG Cross, and it takes the pain out of a caliber change. The whole point of a pre-fit is that you don't have to ship your rifle off to a gunsmith. This one arrives chambered, threaded, and headspaced with the barrel extension already fitted, so you torque it on, double-check headspace with the proper gauges, and you're ready for the range.
The 6mm Creedmoor chambering is a favorite for a reason. It runs flat, bucks wind well, and produces mild recoil that makes spotting your own hits far easier, which is exactly what you want out of a lightweight bolt gun like the Cross. This barrel spins a 1:7.5 twist through four-groove rifling, a fast enough rate to stabilize the heavier, high-BC 6mm match bullets that make this cartridge shine at distance.
PROOF wraps a stainless steel core in aerospace-grade carbon fiber set in a proprietary matrix resin. The result is a barrel that can run up to 64 percent lighter than a steel barrel of similar contour, and it sheds heat better too, so your groups stay tighter as the barrel warms up during a longer string. On a rifle already known for being trail-friendly, dropping weight out at the muzzle makes the Cross point and carry even better.
The muzzle comes cut with 5/8-24 threading, the standard pitch for .30-caliber and under devices, so mounting a can or brake is straightforward. At 18 inches you get a good balance of velocity and handling, and the finished barrel tips the scale right around 2 pounds 8 ounces. If you own a SIG Cross and want a genuine precision upgrade you can install on your own bench, this is one of the cleanest paths to get there.
No, that's the whole idea behind the pre-fit design. It ships chambered, threaded, and headspaced with the barrel extension already fitted, so you can install it on your own bench. You'll still want the proper go/no-go headspace gauges and a torque wrench to verify everything before shooting.
It runs a 1:7.5 twist through four-groove rifling. That's a fast twist chosen to stabilize the heavier, high-BC 6mm match bullets that make the Creedmoor perform at long range. It will handle the popular 105 to 115 grain match projectiles well.
Yes, the muzzle is cut with 5/8-24 threading, which is the standard pitch for .30-caliber and smaller suppressors and muzzle devices. You can thread on a can or brake directly. Just confirm your device shares the same 5/8-24 pitch.
PROOF's carbon fiber barrels can run up to 64 percent lighter than a steel barrel of the same contour. The finished 18-inch barrel weighs right around 2 pounds 8 ounces. On an already lightweight rifle like the Cross, that keeps the front end nimble and helps with heat dissipation during longer strings.
