The 1911 has been getting the job done for over a century, but Sig figured there was no reason it should sit out the red dot era. The 1911 X-Series takes the classic full-size .45 ACP platform and updates it where it counts. The slide comes cut for direct mounting optics with the Shield RMSc compact footprint, so you can run a ROMEO-X Compact or similar micro dot sitting low enough to co-witness with the included XRAY3 day/night sights. No optic yet? The XRAY3s are excellent irons on their own, easy to pick up in bright sun and glowing when the light drops.
The frame and slide are both stainless steel wearing a black Nitron finish, with a carbon steel barrel in black DLC. Sig didn't stop at the optic cut, either. You get an adjustable flat blade trigger, G10 grip panels from LOK Grips, an undercut trigger guard, checkered front strap, and front and rear X-Series slide serrations that give you plenty to grab during press checks. The extended ambidextrous thumb safety and extended slide release keep the controls friendly for lefties, and the removable metal magwell speeds up reloads without permanently changing the gun's profile. An M1913 rail up front handles lights and lasers.
At 42 ounces with a magazine, this is a proper all-steel 1911, and that weight is your friend with .45 ACP. Recoil comes back as a slow push rather than a snap, and the 6.5-inch sight radius on the 5-inch barrel makes accurate shooting feel almost unfair. The single action trigger is what draws people to this platform in the first place, and the flat blade version here breaks clean. Sig includes two 8-round steel magazines in the box, so you're set for 8+1 from the start. The slide is machined for the Shield RMSc compact footprint, which mounts directly without an adapter plate. That covers Sig's own ROMEO-X Compact and ROMEOZero along with the Shield RMSc, Holosun 507K and 407K, Swampfox Sentinel, and other RMSc-pattern micro dots. Sig even includes the mounting screws for the ROMEO-X in the box.
Yes. The XRAY3 day/night sights are tall enough to co-witness through most compact optics thanks to their low deck height on this slide cut. That gives you a built-in backup if your dot ever goes down, which is one of the smarter details on this pistol.
It does. The stainless steel frame includes an M1913 Picatinny accessory rail under the dust cover, so standard pistol lights and lasers mount right up. That's a feature you won't find on traditional GI-pattern 1911s.
Very well, and the weight is the reason. At around 42 ounces with a magazine loaded, this all-steel full-size frame soaks up a lot of the .45's push, so follow-up shots come back on target quickly. Combine that with the undercut trigger guard and high grip the frame allows, and it's a soft-shooting gun for the caliber.
