Description

The Shaw 1022BSS18 is an 18-inch bull barrel built to replace the factory tube on your Ruger 10/22 and take the accuracy up several notches. It carries the full .920 heavy profile from breech to muzzle, which adds mass that soaks up vibration and helps the barrel settle down between shots. Shaw machines it from 416R stainless steel with a bright polished finish, and it's button rifled with a 1-16 twist that plays nicely with the wide range of .22 LR loads most folks feed a 10/22.

What the Bentz Chamber Brings to the 1022BSS18

The heart of this barrel is the Bentz chamber. Think of it as the middle ground between a loose factory sporter chamber and a tight, finicky match chamber. It runs tighter than stock for better accuracy while still cycling reliably in a semi-auto. Standard-velocity ammo in the 1000 to 1400 fps range is where this barrel really shines, so match-grade or good bulk target loads will show you what it can do. One thing worth knowing up front: the tighter chamber means hyper-velocity rounds like CCI Stingers, which use a longer case, aren't recommended in this barrel.

Dropping the Shaw 18" Bull Barrel Into Your 10/22

This is a true drop-in barrel for standard Ruger 10/22 rifles. You pull the two V-block screws, slide out the old barrel, seat this one, and snug the block back down evenly. No lathe, no headspacing, no gunsmith. Because Shaw holds tighter tolerances than the forged Ruger receivers, some barrels seat with a little play and others need a light tap to fully seat. Keep in mind this is a heavy .920 profile, so it wants a bull-barrel stock or a barrel channel opened up to clear it. It won't fit Takedown models.

Crown and Muzzle Details

The muzzle wears an 11-degree target crown, which protects the rifling and helps keep gases releasing evenly behind the bullet for cleaner accuracy. This is the non-threaded version, so you get a clean, finished muzzle right out of the box. Made in the USA by a company with a long history of turning out precision barrels, it's a straightforward way to get better groups out of a rifle you already trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Shaw 1022BSS18 drop into my Ruger 10/22 without a gunsmith?

Yes, it's a true drop-in barrel for standard 10/22 rifles. You loosen the two V-block screws, swap barrels, and tighten the block back down evenly. Because Shaw holds tight tolerances against Ruger's forged receivers, some barrels seat with a bit of play while others need a light tap to seat fully, and it does not fit Takedown models.

Can I run CCI Stingers or other hyper-velocity ammo in this barrel?

Shaw doesn't recommend it. The Bentz chamber is cut tighter than a factory sporter chamber, and hyper-velocity rounds like Stingers use a longer case that doesn't play well with those dimensions. Stick with standard-velocity .22 LR in the 1000 to 1400 fps range and you'll get the best accuracy out of it.

Is the Shaw 1022BSS18 threaded for a suppressor or muzzle device?

No, this is the non-threaded version with a clean 11-degree target crown at the muzzle. If you want to run a can or a brake, you'll want to look at the threaded 1/2-28 model instead. This one is built for shooters who want a finished bull muzzle without threads.

Do I need a special stock for this bull barrel?

Most likely, yes. This is a full .920 heavy profile, so it needs a stock with a bull-barrel channel or your existing channel opened up to clear it. A standard factory 10/22 sporter stock won't accept it without modification.
