Description

Sharps Bros built the Heatseeker to solve a simple problem: the Ruger American is a genuinely accurate rifle trapped in a stock that doesn't do it justice. This chassis fixes that without a trip to the gunsmith. It bolts into your existing action, converts your short action Ruger American to run AICS pattern magazines from Magpul or Accuracy International, and gives the whole rifle a completely different look and feel in the process.

What Makes This Heatseeker Chassis Different

The chassis body is machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum rather than cast or stamped, which is where a lot of the rigidity and clean lines come from. It weighs in at 1 pound 3 ounces on its own, so you're not adding a ton of bulk to your rifle, just a much stronger platform underneath it. Both the chassis and the included 14 inch handguard wear a matte black Cerakote finish that holds up well to handling and weather.

The 1913 Rail Setup on This Model

This particular version of the Heatseeker skips the AR buffer tube style interface and instead uses a built in 1913 rail connection at the rear. That opens the door to running a folding stock, an adjustable precision stock, or whatever 1913 compatible option suits your shooting style, instead of being locked into AR15 buffer tube stocks only. Up front, the handguard has M-LOK slots on all four sides for lights, bipods, or night vision mounts, plus quick disconnect sling sockets on both sides. The grip interface is standard AR15 pattern, so swapping in a grip you already like is straightforward.

Fit and Magazine Compatibility

This chassis is built specifically for the Ruger American Short Action platform in .308 based calibers, including .308 Winchester, 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington, and .243 Winchester. Once installed, the rifle feeds from AICS pattern short action magazines, giving you more capacity options and faster reloads than the factory setup. Assembly is designed to be done at home with basic tools, and most owners report having it installed and ready to shoot in well under an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What rifles will the Heatseeker 1913 chassis fit?

This chassis is built specifically for the Ruger American Short Action in .308 based calibers, which covers .308 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington, and .243 Winchester. It is not a universal fit, so double check your action length and caliber before ordering. It will not work on the Ruger American Ranch AR magazine fed models, those use a different Heatseeker version.

What is the difference between this 1913 version and the standard Heatseeker?

The standard Heatseeker chassis uses an AR15 buffer tube interface for attaching a stock, while this model has a built in 1913 rail interface instead. That means you can run a folding stock or other 1913 compatible stock rather than being limited to AR buffer tube options. Everything else, the chassis body, handguard, and magazine compatibility, stays the same between the two versions.

What magazines does this chassis use once installed?

Once your Ruger American Short Action is fitted with the Heatseeker chassis, it feeds from AICS pattern short action magazines made by Magpul or Accuracy International. This is a significant upgrade over the factory rotary magazine setup in terms of capacity and reload speed. Just make sure you pick up AICS short action magazines specifically, not the long action pattern.

Do I need a gunsmith to install the Heatseeker chassis?

No, this is designed as a home installation using basic tools and the included instructions. Most owners report the whole process, from removing the factory stock to having the action and barrel seated in the new chassis, takes well under an hour. You will still need to source your own grip and 1913 compatible stock separately, since those are not included.
