The SG Smart Shot Timer 2 is Shooters Global's second-generation take on the smart timer, and it leans hard into the stuff that matters when you're grinding out reps on the range. The headliner is a custom-engineered acoustic amplifier that cranks the start beep up to roughly 110 dB, making this the loudest shot timer the company has built. That volume is a real advantage when you're running a squad or timing drills on a busy, noisy range where a weak buzzer gets swallowed up.
The smart sensor is the heart of this thing. It reads shots across the board, from AEG and CO2 airsoft all the way up to any firearm caliber, and it handles suppressed fire too. Sensitivity runs across 100 adjustable levels, so you can dial it in to catch only your shots even on an indoor public range with other people banging away next to you. It also picks up the sound of a trigger pull, which means dry fire sessions get tracked just like live fire, and you can program and save custom dry fire drills.
The U-Grip is the quick-detach magnetic mounting plate that gives this package its name. The second-gen version uses stronger magnets plus positioning hardware that resists side impacts, so it locks a half-circle peg into a notch on the timer's back for a connection that blends magnetic convenience with mechanical stability. The removable metal belt clip grips belts in the 1.5 to 2 inch range, and there are extra mounting holes on the timer itself so you can unscrew the clip from the U-Grip and attach it directly to the timer body if you'd rather run it that way.
Battery life is a strong point here, with up to 100 hours of continuous use or around 7,000 sessions per charge, and you can top it off with USB-C or any Qi wireless charger. The large 172 PPI display reflects sunlight to illuminate itself from the inside for great daytime contrast, while a light sensor kicks on the backlight after dark. Connectivity got a big bump too, with NFC one-tap pairing and Bluetooth 5.4 that reaches far enough to let an RO roam a stage. Paired with the Drills app, you can overlay shot data on training videos, build and share stages, and track progress over time. A dedicated Range Officer mode trims the interface down for match use, which is why it's become a go-to for USPSA, IPSC, and IDPA directors.
