Description

The SB Tactical SBPDW is what happens when the folks who invented the pistol stabilizing brace team up with Maxim Defense to shrink the footprint of your AR pistol. Instead of a fixed brace hanging off the back, you get a telescoping unit with three locking positions that collapses down tight for storage or transport and pulls out to a full-size length when it's time to run the gun. It's a slick, compact setup that gives your build that PDW look without changing how the action works underneath.

What Sets the SBPDW Apart

The big draw here is that the SBPDW uses a proprietary buffer tube but still runs standard, mil-spec internals. It's built to work with a mil-spec bolt carrier group and a carbine buffer and spring, which means you can tune the action the normal way instead of chasing proprietary parts. Just keep in mind the buffer and spring aren't included in the box, so you'll want those on hand. Construction is a mix of durable polymer and steel components with an aluminum tube and castle nut assembly, all finished in matte black.

Fit, Feel, and Sling Setup

The three positions run from roughly 6.75 inches collapsed out to about 9.375 inches extended, so you can dial in the length that suits your reach and your gear. A lever on the side releases the lock and lets you slide between settings quickly. The included adjustable nylon strap cinches down over your forearm for a custom fit, and there's a QD attachment point built into the 6 o'clock position of the housing to keep a sling tucked out of the way while you shoot.

Getting the SBPDW Installed

Installation is straightforward for anyone who's swapped a brace or stock before, but this one does things a little differently. The end plate and castle nut are integral to the assembly, so the castle nut sits rearward on the tube rather than flush against the lower. You'll need a castle nut wrench to get it snugged down. Since the tube and nut are aluminum, take it easy with steel tools so you don't bugger up the threads. It fits mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers, though it won't play nice with Freedom Ordnance FX-9 lowers or SIG M400/516 lowers that have integral QD sockets.
