Sellier & Bellot has built a reputation across nearly two centuries for quality ammunition, and the SB243A represents solid, straightforward performance for hunters and range shooters alike. The 100-grain soft point bullet is engineered with a lead core and precisely fitted jacket designed to expand consistently on impact while retaining weight for deep penetration.
Muzzle velocity runs at 2854 fps with 1809 ft-lbs of energy, giving you a load that sits right in the reliable middle ground for the .243 cartridge. This weight and velocity combination works well for medium-sized game like deer and antelope at typical hunting distances. The soft point design provides the controlled expansion hunters expect without excessive fragmentation, making it practical for both field use and practice work where you want consistent results from shot to shot.
These rounds come with new-production, non-corrosive brass cases that are boxer-primed for straightforward reloading. The consistent case quality Sellier & Bellot maintains means you're getting reliable chamber fit and predictable ballistics, which also translates into reloadable brass worth keeping for future handloading projects.
The packaging and consistency you get with factory ammunition means less prep work before you head out. Twenty rounds per box fit standard .243 Winchester rifles without feeding or extraction headaches. Whether you're breaking in a new rifle, training at the range, or stocking up for the field, this load gives you straightforward performance without surprises.
Yes. The 100-grain soft point bullet at 2854 fps is well-suited for medium-sized game like whitetail and mule deer at typical hunting distances. The controlled expansion and weight retention make it effective for clean, ethical harvests. Shot placement remains important, especially at distances beyond 200 yards where energy retention matters most.
Absolutely. The SB243A comes with boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases that Sellier & Bellot manufactures with consistent quality. After firing, the cases can be cleaned, resized, and reloaded for significant cost savings if you already reload for .243 Winchester.
The .243 strikes a balance between power and shootability. It offers flat trajectory, moderate recoil that makes it comfortable for most shooters, and plenty of velocity to reach out to 300 yards effectively on medium game. These characteristics make it popular for hunters who want versatility without heavy recoil.
Sellier & Bellot is one of the world's oldest ammunition makers, established in 1825 and still manufacturing in the Czech Republic today. They're known for consistent quality and reliable factory loads used by hunters, competitive shooters, and law enforcement agencies worldwide. This ammunition meets CIP specifications, which is the European standard equivalent to SAAMI.
