Savage gave the Axis line its biggest overhaul since the rifle first hit shelves back in 2010, and this Axis XP in .223 Rem is a good example of why the update matters. The stock got reworked with better texturing and cleaner ergonomics, the bolt handle was reshaped so it runs smoother with cold or gloved hands, and Savage added a second sling stud location so you can run a sling and a bipod at the same time. The newest change is the one a lot of folks have been waiting on: the muzzle now comes threaded 1/2-28 from the factory, so mounting a suppressor or brake no longer means a trip to a gunsmith.
This is a true package rifle. The 3-9x40mm scope comes mounted and bore-sighted at the factory, so all that's left is confirming zero with your ammo of choice. Underneath the glass you get the same recipe that made the Axis a go-to budget bolt gun: a button-rifled carbon steel barrel, thread-in headspacing for consistent accuracy, and a detachable 4-round box magazine that makes loading and unloading quick. A simple two-position safety rounds out the controls.

The main difference is the trigger. The Axis II XP adds Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger, while this Axis XP uses the standard factory trigger. Otherwise both share the same button-rifled barrel, thread-in headspacing, detachable magazine, and included scope, so the XP is a solid way to save a few bucks.
