The .25-06 Remington has quietly earned a loyal following among deer and antelope hunters who want a flat trajectory and plenty of reach without a ton of recoil, and the Savage AXIS 2 PRO Forest SP is a great way to run one. It takes everything that made the budget-friendly AXIS line a workhorse and layers on the features hunters usually have to pay extra for. You get the user-adjustable AccuTrigger, a spiral-fluted and threaded 20-inch carbon steel barrel, and Savage's thread-in headspacing for consistent accuracy shot after shot.
The redesigned stock is where you'll notice the difference the second you shoulder it. Savage reworked the ergonomics with enhanced texturing, a contoured pistol grip, and ambidextrous palm swells, so it points naturally whether you're sitting in a stand or steadying off a pack. The whole thing wears Savage's Forest SP camo pattern with an added textured coating, and the barrel and action are protected by a Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote finish that shrugs off weather and wear. The spiral-fluted barrel trims a little weight and sheds heat, keeping the rifle around 6.8 pounds unloaded.
This rifle comes with a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail already in place, so mounting a scope is a straightforward job with no extra base to hunt down. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, giving you the option to add a brake or suppressor down the road. The .25-06 runs a 1:10 twist, which handles the popular 100 to 120 grain hunting bullets nicely.
Savage's AccuTrigger is the heart of why these rifles punch above their price. It's user-adjustable across a wide pull-weight range, letting you dial in a crisp, clean break that suits your style without a trip to the gunsmith. Feed it from the included 4-round detachable box magazine, top it with a scope, and you've got a lightweight, flat-shooting rig ready for the range and the field.
Yes, this model comes with a threaded muzzle cut to 5/8×24, which is the standard pattern for most .25-06 and similar caliber muzzle devices. That gives you the flexibility to add a muzzle brake or suppressor later on. The barrel is also spiral-fluted to shed a little weight and help with heat dissipation.
It does. Savage ships this rifle with a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail already installed on the receiver, so you just need rings and your optic of choice. There are no iron sights on this model, so a scope is the way to go.
This rifle features Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger, which is a big part of why the AXIS 2 PRO shoots so well for the money. You can tune the pull weight across a wide range to get a crisp, clean break that matches your preference. It's one of the standout features that separates the PRO from entry-level bolt guns.
The .25-06 is a well-regarded flat-shooting cartridge that's popular for deer, antelope, and similar-sized game at extended ranges. It delivers plenty of velocity and a flat trajectory with manageable recoil, making it comfortable to shoot. The 1:10 twist on this barrel handles common 100 to 120 grain hunting loads well.
