The Savage Axis 2 Pro in .308 Win is the kind of rifle that makes a lot of sense the moment you shoulder it. Savage built the whole platform around a cylindrical action machined from solid bar stock, and they use their thread-in headspacing system to attach the 20-inch barrel, which is a big part of why these guns shoot so consistently right out of the box. The barrel comes button-rifled and free-floated with a threaded muzzle, so slapping on a suppressor or brake down the road is a simple job. For a .308 built to hunt hard, this one covers the bases without asking you to spend big.
The AccuTrigger is the real headliner here. It's user-adjustable, breaks clean, and lets you dial the pull to your liking without a trip to the gunsmith, which is a feature you just don't expect at this level. Up top, Savage includes a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail already installed, so mounting your glass is painless. Note that this rifle does not come with sights, so plan on topping it with a scope before you head afield. The redesigned bolt handle is slightly oversized with an elongated hexagonal knob and smooth edges, making it quick and comfortable to cycle.
This version wears a synthetic stock finished in Mossy Oak Original Bottomland, paired with black Cerakote on the metal to shrug off rain, brush, and the usual abuse that comes with chasing game. The stock has a contoured near-vertical pistol grip with ambidextrous palm swells and enhanced texturing at the grip and forend for a solid hold in wet or cold conditions. It feeds from a flush-fitting detachable four-round box magazine with a push-button release, and at right around 6.9 pounds it carries easily on long walks. With the .308's reach and knockdown, this setup is ready for whitetail, hogs, and just about any North American big game you point it at.
No, this rifle does not ship with iron sights or a scope. It does come with a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail already installed on the action, so you'll just need to add your own optic and rings before heading to the range or field.
Yes. The 20-inch barrel has a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle and ships with a thread protector. That makes it easy to add a suppressor or muzzle brake if you want one down the road.
Yes, this rifle uses Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger. You can tune the pull weight to suit your preference, and it's known for breaking clean and crisp. It's a standout feature for a rifle in this class.
This model has a 1:10 twist, which handles common .308 hunting loads well across a wide range of bullet weights. The .308 Win is one of the most versatile big-game cartridges out there, making this a solid choice for whitetail, hogs, and more.
